A favicon is an icon image that is displayed for bookmarks (or favorites, depending on the web browser). It's not needed, and is only for those who want to associate some form of an image with their web address. For example, the icon you see at the top of this web page is the favicon for BoonEx.

You must create a 16x16 image, which you can then save in any regular image format (since just converting it later is easier). Once done with this image, you can visit http://converticon.com/, which will convert the image for you, with various options. Once done, upload your new favicon.ico (it must be in an icon format, but other formats can be used) to the root of your web site's directory. It may take some time, but eventually, web browsers will start picking it up. Or, you can include it by force by inserting it in a template file.

No it's NOT that important. All it does is add a tiny icon on your browser url bar and if members save your link to their favorites, it also adds the tiny icon there also.

You're an Internet Explorer user. I can smell it.

Thank your clearing that up. How the heck do you upload it to your root of your web sites directory? Is there a file path? like cpanel/www/media/

Pretend that the path to where you host your web sites is this (if it is, bonus): /home/accountname/public_html/ - you'd place it there.

Or, if you have Dolphin installed in a sub-directory and want only that web site to have this favicon image, you'd place it here: /home/accountname/public_html/dolphin/

It's that simple.

You'd upload to that directory either with a file manager from your web hosting provider, or by using an FTP client.
