Hooked On Shoutbox!

Kinda like hooked on phonics. I swear, my membership is nothing but a bunch of old farts in tow trucks! It's maddening!

I recently added a very good wall mod to my site and after a couple small issues, I have it working very nicely.

I changed my site entrance. If you are logged in and you enter the site from 'townation.com' it will drop you into your account page. The wall mod is on the account page and the profile page. You would think with all my incessant posting I could get them to at least leave a comment or something!

So, here's my question. Short of just removing it, how would you recommend I retrain them to accept and embrace the wall as a form of communication on my site over that silly square chatbox?

I would remove the Shoutbox so that you would narrow down the different ways of communication. Since I have that same wall mod, I make it the most visible item to the member as soon as they login. I have them redirected to the account page and the wall is the only thing on the right column. Make sure you communicate to your member from there as well.

I have auto-friend set for new members who join by form and by facebook connect. This way everything I post is seen by all members (since all are my friends). Post announcements about using it and so forth.. It may take a little bit, but they will eventually get it.

Thats amazing. I already have the admin friends mod as well and it works very nicely. I also have Deanos mod and have made 4 of my long time freinds/users into admins further increasing the chat in the wall. Most of my users followed me from an old site where the chatbox was the center of attention. I guess I will just have to trust they will accept it if forced to use it.

Maybe I can just reset the chatbox so it's accessible by guests and the chat clears after an hour or so. (currently set to 0 so it won't clear) Maybe they'll get the hint. Some of their conversations go on for days a piece at a time.

which wall mod is this and what makes it different to the default one on d7?

Can you put the wall mod in a block on the home page?

Can anyone chat on it or does it only show friends?

Thanks!

Mine is only friends and it defaults to the account page. I think you can get them to customize it any way you want though...

Hello super-dolphin :)

I am using the default wall.

 The latest version of IBDW's Spy Wall mod places the wall on the account page, the profile page as well as the home page. It is a very powerful and well written mod.

Oh, I knew you were joking, but I just wanted to get a word in edgewise. And Zarcon swings horribly, don't place him on your baseball team. One time, he got at least ten fouls.

Hi this is the email I sent Zarcon but we all scared him off. So can anyone help please heh..

Hi I have a problem lol

I ran this in my DB from the instructions from file I downloaded

INSERT INTO `sys_page_compose` (`ID`, `Page`, `PageWidth`, `Desc`, `Caption`, `Column`, `Order`, `Func`, `Content`, `DesignBox`, `ColWidth`, `Visible`, `MinWidth`) VALUES
('', 'member', '998px', 'View events on a Wall', '_wall_pc_view', 1, 0, 'PHP', '$code1', 1, 66, 'non,memb', 0),
('', 'member', '998px', 'post wall', '_wall_post', 1, 1, 'PHP', '$code2', 1, 66,'non,memb', 0);";

and got error in the SQL

Error

There seems to be an error in your SQL query. The MySQL server error output below, if there is any, may also help you in diagnosing the problem

ERROR: Unclosed quote @ 0
STR: "
SQL: ";

SQL query:

";

MySQL said: Documentation
#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '"' at line 1

So I took the"; of the end of the code and ran it again as I didn't think it worked the first time cause of the error.

INSERT INTO `sys_page_compose` (`ID`, `Page`, `PageWidth`, `Desc`, `Caption`, `Column`, `Order`, `Func`, `Content`, `DesignBox`, `ColWidth`, `Visible`, `MinWidth`) VALUES
('', 'member', '998px', 'View events on a Wall', '_wall_pc_view', 1, 0, 'PHP', '$code1', 1, 66, 'non,memb', 0),
('', 'member', '998px', 'post wall', '_wall_post', 1, 1, 'PHP', '$code2', 1, 66,'non,memb', 0);

Seemed to be fine.

So I went to page blocks - Account = and post to wall and submit was there twice.

So I went to member.php page and found it
had the error on the page

LEFT COLUMN
SUBMIT
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/lworld/public_html/inc/classes/BxDolPageView.php(572) : eval()'d code on line 1
WALL
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/lworld/public_html/inc/classes/BxDolPageView.php(572) : eval()'d code on line 1

RIGHT COLUMN
WALL
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/lworld/public_html/inc/classes/BxDolPageView.php(572) : eval()'d code on line 1
SUBMIT
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/lworld/public_html/inc/classes/BxDolPageView.php(572) : eval()'d code on line 1

I have removed these blocks from the db however I still have the errors on the account page.

Okay now I've no idea what to do but ask you for help

help hah I've broken it..
