How do I install a mod manually?

I'm having problems uploading mods via the admin panel always getting wrong format etc when I'm following screen instructions. But nothing is still showing in the admin panel.

Is there anyway to install a mod without using the admin panel? I'm using version 7.2

What are the instructions that you're getting stuck on?

Edit: Sorry, I misread and didn't realize you were uploading via the admin panel. As Deano said, never do that.

Unpack the mods zip file and follow the instructions included with the mod.

Most developers do not package the mods to be uploaded and unpacked using the admin panel because most developers support more than one version of dolphin and the zip file may contain more than one version. Dolphins built in system of installing mods is not flexible enough for most developers and restricts them to the current version of dolphin, so most developers prefer not to use it.

Most all 3'rd party mods come with install instructions in the zip file either in a install or readme text file.

I have the instructions, and followed but It will not upload via admin panel. It says wrong file format and it is a zip file.

If there is no way to install it manually I will just leave it tbh. Not worth messing around with now my site is about to go live. It has been put off long enough.

Cheers anyway guys.

I misread and didn't realize you were trying to upload via the form in the admin panel. Dean is right - most modules are not packaged in a compatible manner. Just unpack it and follow the instructions, and let us know if you're getting stuck on a step. Once properly uploaded, it will be installable from the admin panel. If that's too much work for you, I'm afraid you'll never move past the built-in modules.

I have uploaded it manually. The instructions only say to upload via admin panel. Thing is now I have uploaded it manually it is still not appearing in the admin options to install the module. I have had modules from rayz which is very straight forward uploaded it manually and worked like a dream and installed like a dream I didn't need too upload via admin panel.

But with the mod I have tried to install now its not detecting it at all and ive uploaded it and unzipped it in as many ways possible in modules folder.

Ive already spent £11,000 on my project and I believe I can live with out this mod. But its a pity there is no other way to manually install a mod like other projects I have which are not dolphin its straight forward and no messing around mods install with ease.

But thanks anyway guys :)

In that case, unpack it locally and check it out. It should have these directories:

[vendor] - The vendor's name

| - [module] - The module name

Upload the [vendor] directory into /modules and then check to see if it lists and can be installed. Sometimes the [vendor] directory is omitted, and you'll need to first create it under /modules and upload the [module] directory into it. If you'd like, I can take a closer look and then provide a more detailed how-to.
