How to create some fake online users?

Hi guys,

I've used Profile Generator 2.5 from Netgate and created a few users for my grand new website to make it a little bit busier.

But can someone show me how to set their online status to be on? What file should I edit?

inform yourself a bit better what you do with your site since profile generator can bring you some very harmfull mail from solicitors.

Furthermore will such fake profile do probably more harm cos if real member contact them they will not get response.

Its your site, do as you wish, but only real people make your site active. Its hard and consistent work and not just done in a few month without investment.

You guys could disagree with me, but here is my opinion:

Most dating or community sites have fake profiles to start with because no one will come and register at your site unless they're big company and have their own employees and friends to sign up, or they could use paid per sign up affiliate. I don't see the difference with those sign up with fake profiles since they register to get paid, not to look for friends.

If you ever joined a dating website, and contacted a person in there and never received a reply from him/her, it's a normal thing because they might not interested in you. Not 100% because they're fake users.

About the legal issue, I've talked to a company, which also offers fake profile software. They told me that if copyright issue ever happened, they would be the one in charge. For user's website, they only send removal notice letter to the web hosting company and let them know, and the hosting company either tell you to remove the copyrighted material or will ban your account.

I already asked the person who I purchased the script from. He only sold the script to generate profiles, nothing to do to make those profiles online. It's not included in the purchase.

I believe that there are some files in the Boonex's original files that I could edit to make the users online.

First thing I do when I check out a site with lots of members, is check the site activity on forums etc...

If there are lots of members, but no real activity, I dont join the site.

I would rather join a site with less users, but active users, than loads of non-active users.

Fake profiles can kill a site before you even launch it!

I have seen so many sites with fake profiles that just put me off. There is no activity.

How about this: get the membership vouchers module. This allows you to create membership codes with and quantity of reduction. You can then make your site a paying site, but to populate it you give away codes that have FREE membership. So if your site is $50 a year to join, you can give away the first 5000 memberships FREE with a code. You can put the code on FB twitter and all the other social networks.

Just a thought.
