Normal there must be a english in the dropdown menu.

The site is now in english I hope?
If yes then there is something others.

If you want to have other langauges, you need to make these there. Or buy some from the market and import them.
You can test it out, by make a another laguage  in Create New section. After restart see if this is seeing in the menu.

There is no default english language showing in the default site language dropdown menu. I don't think it was installed.

When I install a module and recompile the language the original code ie _articles_top_menu_item still appears.

Any help is appreciated.

The best thing you can do in this is to reinstall dolphin is my idea. If someone has a other solution then write...

Since the language file is created at the time of install, I would agree,. If you do not have/see the english file...reinstall

Have reinstalled a number of times with the same result. I get a "localization error" until I copy the language file from the install folder to the language folder. The install script is supposed to do this.

The install script should also set up the localisation tables with the default language based on what is on the lang folder but it doesn't. I think it's a server setting that blocks installation to a remote folder or something.

I tried adding the default language i.e. en, gb English to the "sys_localization_languages" table manually which worked but then when I recompiled the language after isntalling a module it made a mess. The installed  module title was ok but all other menu titles were messed up. Got my wires crossed somehow.

Any tips appreciated.

Thank

I have uploaded a new set of files and successfully reinstalled dolphin. The English language has been successfully installed. I don't know what happened exactly, the only explaination would be that a file was not properly uploaded to the server i.e. corrupted or that the permissions were not set properly on a folder.

One of those mysteries I can live without.
