Yup, I feel your pain ... goofed around with D6 until I couldn't stand it anymore ... waited 8 months for a "perfect final release" of D7 with tons and tons of testing, RCs, and betas behind it ... only to find out that here we go again, with problems that I simply refuse to believe that they couldn't be found during all of the testing. All that without even the hint of real top level support for a product that costs a boat load of money for anyone who doesn't want to use the free version. Stuff like not being able to sell products with prices (other than uploadable files, whose idiot idea was that), orca problems, ongoing language problems, multimedia problems, etc. etc. etc. With exception to the store features most of our stuff seems to run pretty decently, but now I fear doing an upgrade after reading over 100 problem messages in just the last few days since the release of 7.0.1. I don't think Boonex is aware of the fact that some people are spending in excess of 100 hours of their time just to get everything working right. The lack of reliable Boonex developer support and documentation is nothing short of absurd. |
its the fact and the reality that we all are very very upset due to the situation of boonex team as they are having crisis in their country , also this is a bitter fact that on odesk , no one is even replying for boonex jobs , beware that on www.limeexchange.com there are many fake fraud type providers who do bids and when you pay them after thinking that you are paying via escrow payment system of limeexchange and your money is safe ! you simply got nothing against your money as they are simply fraud , limeexchange providers and lime exchange escrow scam too , i have lost there huge money and will never gonna use lime exchange scam again but boonex must tell us where we go ? |

The lack of reliable Boonex developer support and documentation is nothing short of absurd. Just a question, why are you using dolphin? There are other alternatives out there. Well, a big part of the problem really has to do with the fact that Boonex lures people in quite well with all of the hype and promos that you get to see on the Boonex homepage. Then you start looking at all of the different features, the streamlined and very attractive D7 homepage from Boonex, the forum which is also quite attractive ... followed by downloading this phenomenal package, not knowing that what you see on the Boonex site (particularily the forum) is not at all what you'll get when all is said and done. Another part of the problem is the fact that this is not just some BS application or a simple game or greeting card portal, but in fact a monolithic community site. This of course causes most people (I'd imagine) to think to themselves that it's obviously going to involve quite a bit more work than other types of web applications or portals. I truly believe that most people don't begin to get seriously frustrated until they've either already paid their dime for a registered version and/or spent a goodly amount of hours trying to create their own killer community site. Well, once you've invested 50+ hours of your time and possibly even a bunch of money, what are you going to do? And as far as this revolution is concerned, sorry, that's in my opinion just a lousy excuse to lag even more behind on getting serious issues resolved. Yeah, now everyone is gonna beat on me ??? Why would I say something like that? Simple, because first of all Boonex is in Australia, second of all there are plenty of developers from other areas of the world without any such problems, but most important of all, having cruised around on this particular forum since over 18 months ago it's pretty clear to me that nothing much of anything has changed during all of this time, revolution or not. Real top level support has always been crap and there are tons of forum posts to support that. |
meinecommunity I agree. I been working on my dolphin sites for a long time and it would be hard to start over. |
Yep gotta agree here. I've a very new user of Dolphin, but pretty experienced with PHP and other languages, and I find the structure of the software pretty baffling. Most of the solutions I need I could perform myself if I knew where to look for them. I can't help but think that it could be streamlined down somewhat. |

Real top level support has always been crap and there are tons of forum posts to support that. I have a question for you. At what point do you give up? How long do you keep throwing money and time at a project that never seems to end? When will we be able to just log in, do our adminstrately duties for the day and have a life? I spend anywhere from 5 to 8 hours almost every night trying to wrestle my way through these problems and I am tired. I've already done this once with another so called 'community' that costs me at least 2 years of work with no final result. I haven't been here as long as some of you but I have been dilligently attacking this project of mine for around a year now and my members still can't use the site with any reliability. I am not doubting Boonex's ability to create an absolutely wonderful product, given enough time but I am losing my following because of the absolutely horrid organizational skills of this team! As far as money goes, if you add up the mods I paid for, the internet access I paid for, the VPS I paid for, NOT COUNTING WHAT MY TIME IS WORTH, I'm already about 2 grand in the hole with this pig and I haven't even bought the license yet! Old bugs aren't fixed. I'm not even convinced that the update they gave us actually fixed as many problems as they say. Probably more like a third of the issues were actually resolved and those that remain have been pushed even farther down the list. NOW with the advent of a FREAK of a patch, we have at least 100 new problems to resolve! In my mind, they made ZERO headway with this patch. In other words, they haven't accomplished shit. I have gone from being frustrated to being outright angry! I am seriously on the verge of just pulling the plug on this life sucking enterprise and going fishing instead. I need to see something dramatic and I need to see it soon or I'm on down the road....... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
For me there is no turning back because I put in more than I thought I would. I have cut down my site so it works good enough. It is not perfect but it is getting by. There are problems on the site i probably don't even know about and will discover them out of the blue or if I get a ranting member contacting me. |
What next. I jsut tried to create a poll. IT DOESN'T WORK EITHER! BUG REPORT! Even if you delete your current polls, the system remembers them and won't allow you to create any new ones! If it's set to 4, and you've made 4, even if you have deleted them, it won't let you make any more. HOW FREAKIN HARD would it have been to do at least a modicum of testing before calling this mod finished? This is a perfect example of a lack of heart to do the job right the first time. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

I'm really new here. Paid for some custom work to be done to the system, paid for some themeing work, paid for a license. Then I upgrade and everything goes to hell. This is infuriating. I was supposed to launch my site today. But it is going to take me another 2 weeks at least to get this thing right again, assuming that Boonex can get any of the bugs fixed (from what I hear that isn't likely). I have a site with over 4,000 members that is offline and waiting for me to finish dolphin. I am starting to feel like a fool... |

Look, I'm not here to start a Boonex bash fest but I am seriously trying to light a fire under their asses on this particular product. They owe us. They need to STOP whatever other projects they are working on and devote the entire team to two weeks of focus and hard work cleaning this shit up. They owe us at least that much. No more new stuff, no more updates to their own website, no more trident missile launches, just Dolphin 7 bug resolution. I don't understand why they can't see the picture here. If they would do this one simple thing, I believe that they would be REWARDED with a flood of license purchases for this product. Just to add my 2 cents in... I been with Boonex for two maybe more years and its always been a hit and miss. My site never ever worked without a bug and its always been that way. The funny thing is that its always that one feature you really need working never worked. when you have a broken site or a bug its hard to invest a lot in terms of buying modules and ext. knowing that the site only works somewhat. Its like selling a car without a engine. I moved from blue host to Boonex recommended host and still no go so you can see my frustration, i finally thought i can put all my problems behind knowing i when with boonex recommended hosting where before i didnt. i moved from v6 to 7 to 701 this is almost 2 monts and i cant go live! I try very very hard not to modify any files because of the upgrades. last upgrade touched a lot of files so you can imagine going back to putting all that modification back.Thats a lot of work! I think Dolphin is a good application if your a programmer but if your not, your pretty much out of luck. I have a list of ext. i love to buy and they average $50+ each but buying them now serves no purpose knowing i can't move forward with my site. Im sure im not the only one holding of on buying ext. or spending money. At the same time the people who spent a lot of time creating the ext/modes are missing out on a lot of revenue from people like myself. On the good side. Over the past 2 year i have noticed alot of changes to make the site and the application better. Im not 100% sure, maybe Boonex is a young company still working through there business model. Still testing out how to better solve/serve the users. I read somewhere they start there day of by spending time in the forums helping people, maybe they can increase or find a better solution to getting some of the critical issues solved. just my thoughts. |
Hi guys I second your opinion Skyforum. Im reallly frustrated also after spending hours and hours on dolphin. I think its simply business model boonex uses that needs to be changed. Firstly who is boonex ? Boonex consists from "unoboonex" who is located in Australia and bunch of developers in Kyrgyzstan - one of poorest countries (I dont mean it in bad way - its not a problem of those devs but kyrgzstan is really poor country as well as mine country - czech republic - which is not that poor as kyrgyzstan but if I compare to germany or UK its poor country also) in the world.I write about poor Kyrgyzstan because people there really need money and their local salaries are veeery low. Its like 10% or even less of salaries in germany etc... so its not surprise that those people really needs some money. My sisters husband is formerly from Kyrgyzstan so I know what Im talking about. I dont think Kyrgyz boonex developers have some regular salary fom unoboonex - they maybe have some percentage from sales but their main income coming from fixing bugs (agents) and developing their own dolphin extensions they sell on boonex website. Most of devs probably have also some main job so their work on dolphin afterhours in their free time. I think Boonex staff should be better paid so they will have more energy and pay more attention to fix bugs instead of making money from fixing them for money from us and spend more time developing their own dolphin extensions instead on working on core debugging. How you guys would want people whom main income is nice paid fixing bugs for money work properly on "free" or bad paid debugging of core component ? Its like you will want from people whom income is from fixing holes in road develop some new technology to have less holes in road. Those people whos main income coming from fixing holes have no intention and no motivation to have less holes...their intention is have even more holes because if there will be more holes = their income from individual fixing will be higher. This example I wrote is same with boonex devs. Why would they work hard and properly on fixing bugs ? There is no motivation for them. This is only my guess - I dont have a clue if my guess is right - so judge yourself.... If nothing changes in boonex system itself than dolphin will be really neverending story with new and new bugs and new and new frustrated people who will instantly pay agents for fixing that bugs and after some point those people just leave dolphin and loose their money they invested. DOlphin is good platform for a good programnmer so you can fix most of bugs yourself - but if you are not programmer and want start your community site prepare big money if you want your site to run soso stable and working. Maybe boonex can switch from "opensource" model and sell even version with advertisment fo some money so devs are more motivated work on core. If basic version will cost like 20 usd its not that pricey for most of people to pay and if this will kick devs to start work more accurate and better why not ? This maybe help boonex to be real company with real motivation to work as best as they can. Because now I think boonex is far away close to be an real company - and thats why things are as they are and we users cant do anything about this. Boonex guys have to want themselves in first instance to change something in their business strategy.. If they will refuses that and continue work current way - than what we - users - can do about it ? I think...nothing... just look for some other way how start our own community site..but there will be always some new people who get catched here and spend some money - so ... why change something what actually somehow works and make some money - thats how prolly boonex think now... and this have to be changed..... I have nothing against anybody so this post is just my sole opinion Thats my 5 cents.... |

You're obviously missing some very important points here !!! First of all, most people wouldn't have the balls to put a product online for commercial purposes if it had this many problems. Serious Boonex/Dolphin issues go back 2+ years and that's just plain unbelievable. When you prsent a business model to the public at large, especially the worldwide public, you have certain responsibilites. Those responsibilites include backing up your claims and if you can't do that, to then back up your claims in a decent timely fashion. This is called doing good business and being professional. It's completely irrelevant what Boonex staff gets paid, if anything, assuming that the core owners/developers have a long term stake in the profits just like the TWO initial developers of eBay or the small group of developers of Google, hand full of developers of YouTube, and so on. The foremost responsibility by the people behind Boonex is to ensure that they back up their claims regardless what they get paid because if they can't back up those claims ... it's not a viable, trustworthy product !!! That is their number 1 responsibility above and beyond everything else, period. One of the reasons why I'm getting pretty irate is because I feel like I have been patently and blatantly lied to. I buy into a product and it's mods, invest some time, and end up with something that is not at all like the very same product that I'm viewing as a working sample ... the Boonex Website. I think it's deplorable that *THIS* website is not identical in every way with the product that's being pushed on the masses. Just look at this forum, need I say more? To me the integrated forum was a prime reason to go with Dolphin, but the integrated Orca forum is crap, period. Nothing short of crap and nothing like the forum that's right here at the Boonex site. And who designs a "product store" if the only viable products that can be sold correctly are software applications? Last time that I checked my dictionary a product is *ANY* retailable product, and I bought into this feature as well for our community site. I feel like I've been lied to because I bought into a "support model with assigned agents" which simply sounds too good to be true ... and it is! Boonex doesn't even assign anyone to regularily participate in this forum each and every single day, at least 12 hours out of every 24 hour cycle. Considering the amount of developers (at least half a dozen not in war zones) how difficult can it possibly be to arrange some decent permanent support ??? There are hundreds of complaints about this subject alone, people feeling abandoned. You don't deserve to be paid for a product with dozens or even hundreds of problems - severe lack of to no support at all - severe lack of to next to no decent documentation at all - promises that aren't being kept - and such a severe lack of testing that it even becomes obvious to code idiots like myself. This is so utterly unprofessional that I have no words for it. Nothing, and I mean nothing is more important in community software than to provide a system that can be upgraded without having to rebuild it from scratch. At this point in time I can only pray and hope that any problems with be addressed by SOMEONE in the forums while my empathy and hope for the success of Dolphin itself is diminishing by the day. If the owners/developers of Dolphin are not already rolling in dough and making millions, I can only say ... "Hey, you most definitely are getting what you deserve for this product" and if they are making millions with thousands of paying clients then I can only say ... "Shame on you for your lack of professionalism, lack of support, and lack of properly working mods in your application!" By the way, I just spent 5 years in Germany (returned to the USA in February 2010) and people there, especially in areas of technology and engineering are being paid DOUBLE of what people here in the USA are being paid. I don't think that Australia is having the same economic crisis as the USA and other parts of the world either. So blaming lack of support on Kyrgyzstan is as stated before, nothing but a lousy excuse which only serves to diminish the viability of Dolphin even more in my eyes. |

@ Freakpower Well said! Boonex needs to put all other projects on hold and focus all the time and resources on getting dolphin 7 to a rock solid bug free state before moving on to anything else. This includes Unity, At this point I really don't care if the market gets fixed because I'm not going to buy any mods until I have a solid script. Give me something to believe in... |
meincommunity for a busy guy you have some of the most long ass winded posts I have ever seen. ha ha ha |
Seriously tho I have my own issues with dolphin but they are all getting fixed. Right now my site works good enough. DosDawg says all is well with his little dolphins. You all have a choice. You can stick with it or drop it. If you really think the boonex guys are so bad then why are you dealing with them? Go. Leave. It really is that simple. ah yes, and ol DosDawg was the asshole. indeed, you guys should have seen where it was going when i was riled up. all of my sites work, no bugs, no issues. i fix what needs to be fixed. but you thought you could do it on a dime. you think facebook and myspace were built on a dime. ask them? sorry edited inside your post time frame... look up. The thing that pisses me off the most is that with 7.0.1 I was happy to find that loads of problems that I had with 7.0.0 had been fixed.... BUT WHO CREATED ALL THE NEW BUGS? Come on some of these new bugs are ridiculous, things have been changed that where fine before like extended search, search results pagination etc etc etc... I know we can easily fix a lot of these our selves but its taking me hours to troll though everything and most of these bugs also appear at Boonex.Us so it's not my server. So what it boils down to is that BOONEX cant be arsed to test as they go along, or even test before they release. Boonex you must be very embarrassed about 7.0.1, or do you not care about yourselves either? Dave... |
Your issues might mostly get fixed thanks to fixing things yourself and help from the Boonex Community, but then in 6 months time you will upgrade to 7.0.2 and then your site will be broken again and you will probably Stick with it and fix the bugs again, but you will also start complaining because you wont be happy with Boonex, you will only be happy with the Community cos at the moment that's the only thing that's saving Boonex. @magnussoft hehe nice post with pills :-). Anyway I have to say Boonex is an examplee how in todays world can be sold everything with good catchy sentences and marketing strategy. I said in my post - dolphin is good platform for programmers and people with good programming skills. For people who are not is dolphin just one big black hole for money and time. As in every business - business owners keep most of money and people who actually work on product itself have just few bucks = no motivation - fixing bugs for money, developing own extensions instead of working on core components. Boonex is not an special on this. I know alot of companies who work similar way but every good company knows - if you want sell good product you have to hire really specialists and give them really good money - that is the only way how to make good money but also offer really good products. You magnussoft mentioned yourself and Dosdaugh that have okay working delphins but you forget mention that you two are people with good programming skills - that is different story if you can guys fix most of bugs yourselve. As far I read somewhere DosDough even offered boonex to send them some already fixed files so they can save time on fixing that bugs again but nobody from boonex was interested .... so.... what more say... |
Good point m8 but after 7.1 I plan to branch the app and stick with what I have. I already have a 7.0 branch that is working the way I want. Dolphin has more than I need right now and whatever else I need I can add. What's broken I'll find a fix. Who knows, I might branch out 7.0.1 work on making that stable as a personal project. Your issues might mostly get fixed thanks to fixing things yourself and help from the Boonex Community, but then in 6 months time you will upgrade to 7.0.2 and then your site will be broken again and you will probably Stick with it and fix the bugs again, but you will also start complaining because you wont be happy with Boonex, you will only be happy with the Community cos at the moment that's the only thing that's saving Boonex. blah blah blah blah
