I don't know if this has anything to do with it but Shrinktheweb sent out a mass email yesterday saying they were having major server issues and were probably going to experience some outages.

Looks like other people were having problems too..

as mscott states, there was not one, but two emails sent out from STW, they are experiencing hardware failure, and are trying to rebuild the RAID now.

Quick update here. The Rackspace team was able to install a progress bar of sorts to the repair routine and it shows that we are at 71.3% after 19 hours of running. That is considerably longer than the last time this happened. It was also determined that this most likely occurred because of a filesystem software failure precipitated by hardware failure where the redundant backup hardware was also faulty. Of course.

Thank you for the update so I am to assume because I do not know that the site share feature uses this shrink the web to share sites and therefore is the issue?

yes, not knowing the software you are running could at times present situations where complexities arise.

somebody would have had to get an API key for STW in order for it to work. there is also a few write ups here on the forum, where initially there were some coding corrections needed. but yes, in order to use the site share, when you add a url that site if available, will produce an image from STW, from an indexed rendition of the sites available image. not all sites have been indexed, thus not all sites have an available image.

I've requested this before, but is there some way to completely deactivate the sharetheweb interaction entirely and just leave this module independent?

It appears to just be a lenght issue for me!  If the url is more than 100 characters long it throws the error incorrect value.........I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it longer.  I changed the lenght in the database fields url and title to accept 135 characters but it still did not take them.  I cleared the cache but I assume there must be an adjustement to the ad page?  Has anyone else done this.........

It would be great to have options...........

You're better off using one of the url shorteners that are out there rather than trying to wrestle the code.

Will that be an issue for SEO?  We are re-posting properties that have property address's in the title how do shortened URLS get crawled?  Do they?  Or does it have to be clicked on to take full advantage?  I guess we can try it for the longer address's and see if they get crawled like the others?  It could be a test......
