Did you install the modules and set the appropriate permissions?
If the install of modules went fine it will say your module is installed...it's important to click the little + sign beside each module you install because some require setting permissions or modifying files.

no i did a basic install of dolphin 6.1. I shouldnt have to install modules to get he forum, groups, and the other features that is suposed to come with the dolphin software. |
Well let's see, do you need to install the forums? Yes, it has steps for that.
Do you need to do anything for Groups? Yes, it has requirements too! Seems to me that you did a bare bones basic install instead of an install. I guess you get what you hire, in your case you should of hired someone besides yourself.

Wow. That was not helpful at all.
Edited to add: In your admin panel, go to Plugins - Then Ray Suite - and it should give you a list of things to install. Install each thing.

hello there, this is indicative of your .htaccess not being loaded on the server when you uploaded your files via FTP, look at your file structure from the compressed files, and find the .htaccess and push it back up to your server, that will cure whats ailing ya here.

Well, the response to Wolf was so rude, he did not deserve a full explanation of how to fix it. Beyond that, maybe this individual should begin to learn why a search function has been placed in this forum and how to utilize it. It's not like he is even the 1 billionth person to ask this question, more like 900 trillionth and its getting old listening to people advise and then the opies getting rude because we dont' hop into their admin panel to do it for them.
Every person here, like Dosdawg, Houston, Ghost, mrpowless and so many others are here of their own free time to help out. Wolf threw a simple answer out to this opie and he proved himself to be an ass. You already know that I will not even begin to coddle such a prickly faced response that is useful once the opies do that.
|
I did not mean to offend you.
But so many times I have come across people looking for help (not just this forum but others as well) where they have received one-word answers that were not very helpful.
Yes... I do agree that the initial response from colubragen was rude. Because really... there is documentation for all of this. Just takes a little digging, right? And I have mad respect for anyone who gives their free time to help people!
|
You are fine kjetterman, that rant was directed more towards the opie and others who go off on those who try to help out a little, not so muc you. Just used your post as an excuse to let it all out.
Good job on the solution, wonder if the opie will even bother to let you know if it worked or not, or maybe Dosdawg's solution.

Anybody got the sounds and video working? Because I can't.. and tried almost everything..
The files are not playing - "File not found", the permissions on data/files/ directories are writable..
|
I just installed Dolphin 6.1.6 and had the same problems with the pages not showing up. I did not receive an .htaccess file in the package. I read the above entries, went to http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/GenDolTShooter#WhenItrytoopenaNavigationMenulinkorsomebodysprofileIgetthispage:NotFound
copied the mod_rewrite text and made up my own .htaccess file, uploaded it and everything works.

On 6.1.6 Everything does work. If your pulling a 404 error, it's either permissions or you did not fully upload the folder/file that it's referring to.
Look at the error and then log in to your server via FTP Client (WinSCP, Filezilla) and check the path to make sure the files are there. Again, upload in BINARY mode via FTP Client, that is the one way that will guarantee it all uploads perfect everytime. Do not allow your FTP to do an automatic upload, to many issues with it.

The .htaccess file DOES INDEED come with the package.
On unix, files starting with a . are hidden. Sometimes they can be missed on windows also. And crappy unzip programs also sometimes don't extract them or empty directories which also explains why some people claim they are missing files or directories.
The instructions in trak are out of date, and the example .htaccess file there is not quite accurate for dolphin 6.1.6.
Get another copy of dolphin, unpack with a decent utility such as winrar or winzip and upload the correct .htaccess file.

You're right. I used a Vista OS computer the first time, after reading the above posts I opened the zip on another older computer with WinZip, found the correct .htaccess file and uploaded it. |

Did you use Vistas built in zip extraction the first time?
If so i will have to make a note of that.
Winzip and Winrar both very good can be installed on vista also.

I have used Vistas default extract system everytime and never had a problem losing files with it. In addition, I've done 2 6.1.6 installs in the past week and neither had a problem with not having the .htaccess file in it. Both were ready to go once I created the DB, ran the install, set the crons, did the chmods & then deleted my installs. It's actually easier under .6 than it was under .4
I notice though, none of you are noting how you have your FTP set up. If your really concerned, then just load the zip directly on the server via ssh access and unzip there.
