I'm completely sick of the Fish Forum

You would have thought that Boonex would have gotten after the forum issues by now. Quote posts that don't work right, signature lines that suck ass and a forum that is generally difficult to use and follows no known format in it's design.

I'm dumping it. I just spent 15 minutes using the HTML feature of the editor to go in and fix all the idiocy the editor adds into the text of a post. Even after that, I can't get the post to display with any level of readability.

Is anyone using the PHPBB mod? If so, how is that working out for you? Are there still problems getting it to interact properly with the rest of the Dolphin script?

Dolphin is a very fantastic script as it saves you a lot of time, effort , energy in the long run than what you would have spent by using other scripts.

If you are using dolphin for the first time, you could get stuck half way,  it could be very boring or horrible for you  if you do not  take some time out  in the beginning to study its benefits, flexibility and extensibility , Site Arrangement and how Dolphin can create that your big idea.

There are several key questions you need ask yourself from the very beginning to understand your project goals and how you can get the best out of Dolphin script.

Don't always rush into a new version without taking time out to study it and testing it fully before migrating.

How do you tweak Dolphin to create your Unique world or to  bring your  great idea to reality? - is a matter several factors you must have considered and understood from the very beginning so that you can direct your energy or you can spend time / effort on the areas that are absolutely essential for your Success.

I will posting a free guide soon (Common Mistakes People often make)  so others can easily find their way around this Powerful yet Flexible Dolphin Script.

Dolphin is great when need Social Networking , Community or Dating in a box,

Orca in Dolphin allows you to access basic  forum features while still in the Social Network environment.

If you want great forum features, then consider Tweaking Orca  into a full forum  or  integrating an already full forum script

phpBB is a great forum script but phpBB can never  perform many  of the great Social Networking  features built  into Dolphin

Harnessing the potentials of these different Software is the greatest challenge of today.

if your project has specific forum needs - you might consider mixing  phpBB3 or  IPB  or VBulletin with dolphin depending on your specific needs / time / project budget.

No, not integrated PHPBB or VB although Im interested in doing so.

Was very near to paying for PHPBB integration but then read lots of posts from people saying it doesnt work... left not sure on if it actually does or not!

I agree, Orca is not great. It does the basics, but has some big flaws that I wish were sorted.

Then again, there's lots of bits in Dolphin I wish were 'sorted' the way I want them to be!

Guess thats where paying for custom work comes into it....

if you get anywhere with other integration, post up about it, Im interested for one.

Sammy, check my post level. Dolphin isn't a new thing to me although i appreciate your input.

I know there were issues early on with the different PHPBB integrations but that was a while ago. I also know a phpbb integration will only replace the forum, it will not replace the fish forum in the groups mod, something I only recently started developing.

My site is not a dating site (actually NONE of my sites are dating sites) Using a phpbb script has one very beneficial factor in it's favor. Everyone already knows how to use it. Some of the features in the Orca script are hard to understand and don;t work well where these same features, including bb code, already exist and have all the bugs worked out of them and people are used to them.

You might say people only use Microsoft because that's what they are used to even though Apple might have a better product. My members are either race car drivers or tow truck drivers. They aren't office geeks or Saturday afternoon coders.

Now back to the original question. Has anyone successfully integrated the phpbb into their sites and if so, what kind of issues did you run into?

PS, how many members hate the Fish Forum? I started a poll of my members. As it stands right now, they are 100% in favor of dumping the current script.

I've put in a request to Dolphinbugfixing but still have not received a reply. As near as I can tell, he's the last developer with a working solution. I do have a copy of one I bought some time ago from eSase that worked, sort of but is not apparently supported anymore (page 404 error in market)

My site really centers around the forum. The spywall I use has helped take up some of the slack but the fact remains, my users hate the Fish Forum. It' just doesn't have any features and the editor is lame at best.

Instead of continuing to try and reinvent the wheel, I'm just going to use one that I know already rolls like it should. I am still asking the question:

Has anyone successfully merged the phpbb forum script into Dolphin?

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
