Installing Dolphin 7 on Windows Server

Getting conflicting explanations on this so I figured I should check here for insight and clarification. I have a dedicated windows server through HostGator and am attempting to install Dolphin 7. Have already installed Dolphin 6.0003 through plesk using web application (auto-install) and everything seemed to work fine.

I paid boonex for the installation but they are telling me it cannot be installed on server running IIS. HostGator seems to disagree but I would think Boonex would know better. My concern is previous version of Dolphin worked fine. Is this something new with Dolphin 7 or can it, in fact, be installed on Windows Server running IIS in lieu of Apache???

Any wisdom or advice is appreciated.

Regards,

Adam

Dolphin requires the Apache web server, and is not compatible with IIS. This is mostly due to Dolphin's dependency on .htaccess files, which are Apache-specific.

If you are on a VPS or Dedicated server platform, I'd suggest removing IIS and installing Apache. Though there are ways to get Dolphin running under IIS, it's complicated, and I am unaware as to how (it includes converting .htaccess files to work with the IIS equivalent).

So I assume earlier versions did work on an IIS server. As I said, the web applications had Dolphin 6.0xxx in it and I installed it without issue.

The challenge is we have another site on our server that is built on the flex platform. I am checking with that developer to ensure switching from IIS to Apache won't cause any issues with that site.

Thanks for the insight...

I suppose the reason Dolphin 6.0 worked without issue is because it was pre-configured.
