Is DOB Critical?

During the join process or later, is the DOB field a critical one in Dolphin? If it is then why in Admin you are able to remove these fields in the Join, and Profile pages?

Someone explain please.

I haven't messed with it in 7.X but I know in 6.X if you moved it off the join form all new members would have a DOB of 0000-00-00 and then they wouldn't show up anywhere on the site for some reason.

I worked on a site for someone who didn't want people to have to give their DOB and we got around it by moving it off the form and then setting the default in Mysql for that field be 1980-01-01 instead of 00-00-0000.

Like I said though, I'm not sure about 7.X

Yes, I do not want to force members to enter DOB, so I wish to avoid it altogether. Someone advised me that it is necessary, but I just do not see it. I guess it does effect search issues with DOB, but other then that, no need.

Anyone else have any idea with this please?

Moved.

You can move that field to the inactive area on the builder.  Your members will have no date of birth, but should still be able to use the site as usual.  You can also move it off the join form, but keep it on the profile edit page for members to fill out later.

Thanks so much. Yes leaving it on the edit page is fine, they can choose to fill it out if they so desire.
