I'm about to start a serious business with dolphin as a platform, should I use it? Or am I going to have problems with bugs all the time?
Thanks!

Good Luck! |
You will have problems and you will need a private programmer ot handle the issues. Boonex makes a great "base" but for anything more you will havet o customize. Having said that, it makes a good base once the bugs are tweeked (and the advanced search feature is turned on, its not!) |
Depends on the verison your looking at.
D6? Very stable and pliable software package that you can feel confident in starting out a business on.
D7? Of course it has bugs, it's still in the Beta format.
In the end, the trick to using Dolphin is to know what your want your business to do and not do and then proceed from there. If your not experienced, then hook up with 1 or 2 people that are very eperienced in it and you'll be able to move to a finished production version very quickly for your site. Knowledge is gold... In Dolphin, knowledge is like a gold mine. |
I agree. It really depends on what you are wanting to do with your business. It is true that unless you are experienced in coding, you will need to find some good folks here to help "customize" dolphin to fit your business needs. My suggestion is: If it is possible, wait until a RC client of D7. The reason I say that is because, the file AND database structures are completely different than D6 versions. If you ever do decide to upgrade, then you might run into some problems or lose customizations that you already have in place. But of course if you want to start this "serious business" tomorrow, then I would recommend using D6 since D7 is still in its last beta stage. Nothing to see here |
Thanks for great asnwers, and regarding D6 VS D7. Should I wait until the realease of D7 ( it should be in the end of this month if I'm correct), I'm not a programmer, but shouldn't D7 be more reliable and stable than D6 because the allready know the bugs and problems from D6? |

Well I wouldn't specifically say that, however I can say this, there is always a chance of flaws, bugs, and woopsies in new releases. But according to Boonex, the ability to apply fixes, upgrades, or patches will be relatively simple to do in D7. Nothing to see here |
D6 vs. D7, there is no way to say that D7 will be more stable than D6 as they are completely different scripts. While one would think 7 would be more stable with issues learned with 6 are addressed in 7, the complete redesign of 7 with a brand new file structure and completely new options makes it very unlikely that it will be bug free.
D6.1.6 has been proven to be stable in a production environment and will get your project moving much quicker. Beyond that, a large number of the tiems that are in D7 can be integrated into 6, without layout being the biggest difference, however a very good coder can replicate a D7 appearance in D6. |

Ok, and the most important thing to me right now is that it should be stable. So I think I will start with D6, thanks for the help.
