Is FFMPEG required for YouTube embed? Yes or no?

I've asked, nobody has answered. It doesn't look like making sure that an out-of-the-box feature is working in this software so I've been reduced to asking things yes or no. :D

Again, is FFMPEG required in order to embed YouTube video? GoDaddy does not allow it to be run...is this why embedding is failing?

For anyone wondering, yes, it does. I have another D7.0.2 installation on a completely different server, and when removing FFMPEG the issue persists, then when replacing it embedding works fine.

Thanks jacobidesign for shedding some light on this.

FFMPEG has nothing to do with embedding you tube videos.. they are links to another source.

FFMPEG converts recorded video and uploaded video files to display on your site.

I tried it on a server which allowed FFMPEG, and it worked. On the one that did not allow FFMPEG, it did not. I replicated this with other setups as well. Whenever FFMPEG was unable to run it errored out. Worked like a charm when it was.

I hear what you're saying, and I was able to embed the video into a plain html file on the same server, but within D7 it never worked without FFMPEG. Could D7 possibly be checking FFMPEG before posting the video even though YT doesn't specifically need it?

i had to move my hosting from godaddy because they did not allow FFMPEG on 'shared' servers. if you have a godaddy virtual server you can run FFMPEG. i use ARVIXE and am very happy with the service they have been providing.
