Is it dying down

What is up with the community? Seems to be dying down. I know that Dolphin has had its issues in the past but I have been with it long enough to get my site in order and all works well. Don't have any members after more than a year as a live site...but hey..its a work in progress...it always is.

This site seems to be maintaining only a few active members these days. Looking forward to version 8. Hopefully the activity kicks back up...and I mean in a positive way.

Could be as simple as the spring weather... people are spending more time away from their computers.

Well you said it well enough, there are not many problems coming up because they have been working on all the bugs..

I miss all the activity too, but as you say, it's a good thing. lol

Crazies have been getting perma-banned these past few months.  It's like spring cleaning.

I think with the weather breaking is one thing.  I think the other issue is D8 comming along.  Some users feel like there is essential bugs that are being overlooked in D7 and already jumping to D8 before finishing 7.  The same will happen with D8 the answer will be D9.  Growth is important, but I stopped working on my D6 site because ALL the TALK about D7 for a few years.  It's out and I decided to come back to the community a few months ago.  I really really debated on waiting for D8 but i couldn't holdoff for another year or so for a stable version for community.  I love boonex in genral.  Forms are great when you have people answer your posts =).  That is funny though I notice the same thing with it slowing down though.  Sorry for the rant hehehe

Ted,

Glad your back..!

I never used version 6, started with 7.0.0, there were some major security holes found and corrected between 7.0.6 -- 7.0.8, not sure about the exact versions.

They (boonex) sent every member a letter few months back after the hole was found and fixed, 7.0.9.

I barley noticed the letter in my in box..

There are just a handful of us, except for the new people coming on board. I feel sorry for any webmaster that has not upgraded any Dolphin site to 7.0.9, security and spamming are not as prevalent anymore.

I agree...security has gotten better. It's been a few weeks since I implemented some htaccess mods as well as some join form additions and I have not had one spam account created. I am completely STOKED about that. Went from about 100 new accounts in 2 days to none in weeks.

Dolphin is getting better and I am willing to hang in there...waiting to see what the future holds for D8. I am not rushing into changing up my site anytime soon as it works 100%. But would be nice to get my hands on D8 so i can setup a test site on another server and mess with it.

THanks =)!  I wished people would contribute a little more.  Even if you are a newbie.  It would be nice to see people post prior to saying HELP ME FIX IT! hahaha

Plus I know there is a lot of users that can get by on here that might be able to take the time to help someone out on the forums.  Even if it is something simple. lol

Cant wait to create another site when D8 is launched!!!  Wait...  should I be able to do this agian? haha.

Most of us that have been here for years have moved on. Boonex has made too many promises and never seems to get a version out that works 99% of the time. Don't expect a new release for another year at least. We all just got tired of losing money. To bad too as when it first started out we all believed all they said and thought this would be a great software.  But good luck to all who still believe in Boonex..roflCool

Last I checked, [Ireland software] died in a fire and all their developers were laid-off.

A few things happening...

1. Dolphin 7 hasn't been given a "feature update" for a very long while. Instead it had 9 (!) service updates, focusing on stability. This is arguably a good thing, but it certainly not as exciting as a feature update.

2. BoonEx has revved up D8 development, yet there's still no installable alpha/beta version. We've opted for a very thorough base development, no quick hacks, which again is a good thing, but not as exciting as a semi-operational "live" version.

3. Moderation has tightened up lately, which is a good thing, too.

......

The first two are temporary things. Some "excitement" is coming really soon.

I'm very glad to wait, but yet very excited to see what's in store!

Moderation could not be better, Nathan, and Zarcon have made this place professional finally, a good place to really express ourselves; back about a year and a half ago, posting here was very intimidating, not anymore... Thanks.

Now I trust the market as well, this place used to be like the wild west!! lol

I think what we have is almost perfect! Thanks Boonex team.

I've been caught up in reality and focusing on a job that puts food on the table.

Wish I could say the same about my dolphin implementations, unfortunately they barely cover hosting costs month to month. Guess I haven't found my niche market yet :)

I refused to upgrade my active sites beyond 7.0.6, I put my members through enough pain with the previous updates and having to rework all modules every time. I like to think I'm holding out for 8, but that might just be more of the same - and I fear I might just have to let my hobby sites die.
