I'm currently running D7.06 and I actually use firebug quite a bit, but for some things I just can't find the exact "pixelarea" to click on, for firebug to show me exactly what I'm looking for while I'm trying to customize my dolphin site. Here are some examples ....
1. Although I could find the foreground color/image of the main menu, I've not been able to find the background colors ... which file or image do I need to use in order to change the "white" default background of a main menu item once that item has already been clicked on?
2. The same question applies to the drop down menu from the main menu items. Which files or images do I need to change for that? I know there's transparency involved so I'm assuming that .png images control that ... but there are so many of them with similar names ... and I don't want to mess anything up in the process of customizing. I need to change the default selection color of a selected item as well as the transparent shade behind the selection, as the mouse cursor moves down on the selected menu.
3. Also, is it possible (without custom coding) to change the default background of the sound files from white to something else? I'd really appreciate some help with these issues since I can't seem to find the answers on my own. Thank you.

That's all in top_menu.css
The default top menu uses a lot of background images. Look for image backgrounds with names that start off with tm_ ... for instance:
.topMenu a span.down, .topMenu b span.down {
background: url("../images/tm_item_right.png") no-repeat scroll right top transparent;
cursor: pointer;
display: block;
padding: 0 5px 0 0;
text-align: center;
}
.topMenu a, .topMenu a:link, .topMenu a:visited, .topMenu b {
background: url("../images/tm_item_left.png") no-repeat scroll 0 50% transparent;
border-width: 0;
color: #481C1C;
display: block;
font-weight: bold;
margin: 0;
padding: 0 0 0 5px;
text-decoration: none;
text-transform: capitalize;
}
div.sys_top_menu {
background: url("../images/tm_bg.png") repeat-x scroll center top transparent;
min-height: 31px;
position: relative;
z-index: 100;
}
You can either change all the background images to a color you like, or you can just get rid of images and use css. The same css as above with background colors instead of background images:
.topMenu a span.down, .topMenu b span.down {
background: none;
cursor: pointer;
display: block;
padding: 0 5px 0 0;
text-align: center;
background-color:#FF0000;
}
.topMenu a, .topMenu a:link, .topMenu a:visited, .topMenu b {
background: none;
border-width: 0;
color: #481C1C;
display: block;
font-weight: bold;
margin: 0;
padding: 0 0 0 5px;
text-decoration: none;
text-transform: capitalize;
background-color:#FF0000;
}
div.sys_top_menu {
background: none;
min-height: 31px;
position: relative;
z-index: 100;
background-color:#FF0000;
}
Backup your top_menu.css, then make the changes above to see what happens. There are, of course, other places where you would need to replace background images in the same manner, but you get the idea.

Dammit!! Trying to post code in this POS forum is getting to be a pain in the ass again. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Thanks a ton, HL. That's a huge help. Wouldn't have any ideas for that white background in the sound files, would you?
One more question, just an idea I've been playing around with for the "invite a friend" page. Since I removed my bottom menu I was thinking of creating an external link to the invitation page, but I don't want it to appear full size as a separate window or tab on another screen. Is it possible, with one single active link command line, to include size constraints for the new opening page? One way of doing it would be for me to default the initial link to an html page with javascript code, this being code that forces a linked page to open in a particular size, say 500 px X 350 px. If I use redirect at 0 seconds, the html page should instantly open up the size modified invite a friend page, right? Only problem with that is that the page with the redirect would remain open too, and that would look unprofessional. I'm not big on php but I can follow instructions. Any thoughts on this problem? Thanks again, your help is really appreciated.

You mean something like this?
<input value="Invite" onclick="window.open('http://yoursite.com/somefile.ext','mywindow','width=700,height=600,scrollbars=yes')" type="button" />

Yes, and no, HL. I can already do that with the go between html page that has the instant (0 seconds) redirect. What I meant by "active link command" was that I wanted to know if there was such a command that could be entered into the URL path of the new main menu button? Maybe I'm just not explaining this correctly ...
I'll be using the Menu Builder/Navigation Menu to create a new sub-menu item entitled "Invite others" or maybe I'll just use the existing Tell A Friend button if there is one. I'm going to place that new link/item in the home portion of the main menu, as a sub-menu item. System Name, Language Key, and Default Name are not problem. But then I have to enter the URL path. If I use the existing URL path for the default "tellfriend.php" in the root of dolphin, I end up with a new page when someone clicks on the link ... that's perfectly fine. My question is this ... is there some way to enter a straight URL path with page size constraints already included in the active link path, to force that new page to open up in a different, more desirable size? I did try your suggestion in the URL path field with my correctly entered tellfriend.php page and size constraints, but that opened up the "profile not available" dialogue page. It wouldn't open up in a new page either. I've included a screenshot for you ...
I can live with it if that's not possible but I thought I used code similar to that in a greeting card script a few years ago. I just can't find the damn script anywhere to check it out since I had a dual hard disk meltdown about 6 months ago. That was part of what I couldn't recover anymore when I did my bit for bit and block by block recovery.

Now that i think of it, javascript should be able to be placed in the URL as well.
Try using this as the url.
javascript: return launchTellFriend();
If it workes in the URL it will do the exact same thing as the link in the bottom menu did.

Thanks for the tip deano92964, but ... it didn't work. Bummer ...
Result was the same as when I tried using HL suggestion as a link. I don't use caching on my browsers at all (we have a dedicated 20 mbps connection) and I did clear the cache in Dolphin first, to make sure that I'd get a clean link to click on. I also tried changing the url with the actual file name instead ... tellfriend.php ... but that didn't work either. Opera and Firefox both displayed that odd unaccessible profile page after clicking on the link. Any other thoughts or ideas? Keep 'em coming please .... thanks. BTW, happy easter!

You previously made no mention of putting it in the top menu. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Well, I did say in my later post that I probably wasn't explaining things correctly which is why I then provided a better, more accurate description of what I want to accomplish. So let me ask this instead ....
.... would it be possible to change the physical constraints of a page within the page itself? In other words, I create the sub menu link to the tellfriend.php file from within the main menu just as that page would normally be linked. But after the link is clicked on, then there's code on that tellfriend.php page which prevents it from opening any larger than 450 px wide by 350 px tall. Is that possible? If so, that would definitely be a solution. Thanks again.
