Issue with Privacy Groups

I am using Dolphin 7.1

I am using the dolphin site as an intranet for my client's organization. To enable department specific file and image sharing. I am using privacy groups. The privacy groups have been created from the department heads profile, and all the department members have been added to their respective groups from all the department heads profile. 

So far so good. 

Now, as far as I understood the privacy group system, the privacy group creator can share private files to his group and all such files will be visible to only that group. However, when the other members upload file and allow viewing to all members, shouldn't those file be public files? In my case, files uploaded by other members of the group are also uploaded as private files and visible to only that group. Why is this happening? This is not how it's supposed to work. This way none of the file uploaded by all the members will be public, just because they have been added in a privacy group!

Also, sometimes, the files (uploaded by other members, not HODs) are shown as private, sometimes they are not!

Is this a bug in the system, or am I missing something? Please help.

Is this a bug in version 7.1? Will upgrading to 7.1.6 solve this?

It's not a bug.... you're missing something.

Creating a privacy group related to your own profile, then adding people to that group, only establishes a relationship between you and each of the people you added to that privacy group.  It does not establish a relationship between each of the members just because you added them to your own personal privacy group.  That is the way it is designed to work, and the way it should work.

For what you are doing to work the way you want it to, each member of your 'groups' would have to create an identical privacy group, then add each of the other members to it... a bit tedious if you're working with a lot of people. Then, you'd have to worry about people uploading files and forgetting to set the proper privacy on the files.... it could turn into a big mess.

I think you have a better chance of implementing what you want to do by using the groups module, or renamed clone thereof.  It might need a few customizations to work exactly as you want it.

I hope I have explained my problem correctly, because what u are talking about is tangent to my issue. 

Let's say I create a privacy group and add 4 other members in that group. New when I upload a file or image, give viewership right and download right to this group. So only those 4 people and I can view and download those files and images. Till this point it is working fine. No issue.

But when the other 4 members are uploading their own files and images as public even their files and and images are getting uploaded as private not public, which should not be happening. Like other standard members they should also be able to upload public files right?? But in my system they are not able to. Other members are not able to view their files. These 4 members don't need to keep their files and images private and even though they are uploading the files as public, others are not able to see their files, only 5 of us in the privacy group can!! This is a strange behavior. 

I hope this time I am clearer with my problem. Once again, it's only I who want my files to be private for my privacy group. Other members in my group don't need any privacy option and should be able to upload their files as public. But that's not happening!

I'm not sure how much help anyone will be able to give you on a closed private site.   What is your exact version of Dolphin?  7.1 isn't specific enough.  I am not aware of any issues where a member being added to some other members custom privacy group affects privacy setting on their own content.  If this were a common issue, I think it would have surfaced by now.  Is there any chance you can reproduce the problem on a public dolphin site?

My dolphin version is 7.1.5 

I don't think the issue will be consistent even if i tried to recreate it on any public dolphin site. Even in my current site, the issue is happening with some members, not all. 

I am upgrading to 7.1.6. Will update this space if the problem persists even after upgrading. I hope upgrading to the latest version solves the issue 

I upgraded to 7.1.6 but the issue is still there.
