I don;t know why no one can seem to get Boonex's attention here but many of our sites are SUFFERING!
The join form has issues. In Firefox and Chrome, many people are experiencing problems with the date picker not working and now, my testing has revealed the form DOES NOT SUBMIT IN IE!!!
In IE, the date picker works, but after completely filling out the form and trying to create a test account, clicking the JOIN button has no result! It does not work!
This has been going on since the installation of the FINAL version.
WAKE UP!
Please address these issues!!!!!

There must be something specifically different on your site.
Every reported problem i have seen has always been with chrome. And the patch provided works for that.
Your free to test on my 7.1 site if you want. I have checked every browser. http://www2.deanbassett.com/

I just posted to your facebook support. My form has not worked in some time. I really did not notice it at first. I had this problem several versions back with the date picker but can't find any information on it. I know it's related somehow... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
Also, why does the date picker work in IE but the form not submit anyway? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
Also, why does the date picker work in IE but the form not submit anyway?
I do not know. I cannot reproduce on my site. On my 7.1 site the form works fine in IE.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Is it possible the datepicker is opening under the browser in some cases? I found my old issue and how I fixed it. Thanks to Nathan. This won't work in 7.1 but might be a clue.
popup date calendar (birthday) fix
thanks to nathan
You made some odd changes to the base template, which is causing the date picker to load under the page, instead of above it. The easiest way to fix this is to make a quick style edit.
/plugins/jquery/themes/ui.datepicker.css
change
.ui-datepicker { width: 17em; padding: .2em .2em 0; display:none; }
to
.ui-datepicker { width: 17em; padding: .2em .2em 0; display:none; z-index: 999 }
The added code is in red. Remember to clear the site's cache for the changes to take effect.
This should force the date picker to appear above everything else.

Why won't it work in 7.1?
I was able to find that css file in dolphin 7.1, and the class i there as well and appears to be the same. So i do not see why you can't apply it to 7.1.
I do not know if that is the issue anyway. I would need to see the site.
But if the date picker is there and your able to select the date, then that would not be the issue anyway.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
If you want me to test, pm me the site and I will test it with IE9 64 bit. Geeks, making the world a better place |

That file does not exist in my version of 7.1 In fact, I think in one of the posts here about 'finalizing and cleaning up' 7.1, they talk about the new date picker they installed in the script. I will look again

Ok, I have not had anyone sign up since 7.1. I can't successfully complete the task from any of 3 different computers in my office using any of 4 different browsers. The date picker only works in IE for me on any of them.... Did you actually try and complete the process all the way? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

The form is a mess. We have {evalresult} as a caption. Clearly a heavily moded form.
I would suggest checking all the eval entries, that {eval result} in the terms caption is indicative that something is very wrong.
I must say, giving it "wake up" in bold red when you have clearly moded the form heavily and clearly screwed something up (given the {eval result} appearing as a caption) is a bit rich.
|
The form is not a mess. It's the same form I have always used. Worked fine in 7.09. A couple differences, Captcha was forced down our throats and since it really does not effectively stop spam, it has been removed from my form. Replaced by a simple human question.
The TOS problem I have posted before but it goes largely unnoticed, usually with a 'fix the language key' reference or no response at all. I have tried everything to repair it always to no avail. I got tired of posting about it and had reached the point where I was just ignoring the issue. The language key is in place and correct.
I put it in bold because I have tried every solution, including using the absolute default join form, all to no avail. The date picker does not work correctly, the TOS does not properly display the language key and the form does not submit.
What mods do I have? I use Deanos Facebook connect, pretty sure that isn't causing the issue and I also use the "All Are Friends" mod by Anya Kates since Dolphins forcing of 'friends' only serves to limit activity on smaller sites, also a topic I have posted on at length with absolutely no return input from Boonex.
Just for the record, the "All Are Friends" mod was only reinstalled a couple days ago and this problem existed long before that was done.
I will say, I am my own worst enemy sometimes and in all likelihood, it will turn out to be something I had a hand in creating. The only reason I am getting loud about this issue is I am not the only one reporting it and it is a problem that can cost 7.1 site users to lose membership, money and maybe even their sites success if it isn't noticed and dealt with in a timely fashion and To date, except for one change posted to deal with Chrome, I have seen no response from Boonex at all on the issue.
I did buy a license for this site and would think I could at least get a chuckle out of them without going through all the 'submit a ticket' gooneygoohoo that gets about as much response.
If someone wants to take a peak, I'll be more than happy to let you on the server. I will also post a "yeah, I did it again" apology when and if it was my fault.

Sky.
I have determined that your form is crapping out during the email check. The eval must have a problem. Perhaps some kind of email filtering mod.

I'm no coder but shouldn't there be a closing php tag?
http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
Closing php tags are optional. Boonex choose to remove them from dolphin 7.1 because it fixes the error "headers already sent" if there is white space after the closing php tag.
Saves some support headaches.
An did you see my post above this one?
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Never mind. I answered my own question
"If a file is pure PHP code, it is preferable to omit the PHP closing tag at the end of the file. This prevents accidental whitespace or new lines being added after the PHP closing tag, which may cause unwanted effects because PHP will start output buffering when there is no intention from the programmer to send any output at that point in the script. "

SF, the key to getting your join form to submit, is locating the source of the {evalResult} just above the sumbit button. I was able to submit the form after I deleted {evalResult} from the page source. Can you outline exactly what you did to create the 'Human Check'? Did you use a language key for all the text... especially the popup text that uses single quotes? My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
That was it. The profile email block is adjusted to make use of changes in the design.inc.php file. Those changes were overwrote with the 7.1 update. Forgot all about that...
Once I removed those changes, you can now join. IE works, including the datepicker, Firefox fails now because of an error in the date picker. It does not popup nor does entering it in the correct format work. It always comes back with an error. I think it's the same issue as before. I cannot find the file in Nathans fix, they all have different names now....
The TOS {evalresult} still remains as well

The bot_stopper is a simple profile block I created with the following check:
return strtolower($arg0) == 'towing';
I have never had any issues with it's performance and outside of what dolphin might create when the block is created, i have added no language keys for it.

I tested your join form date picker with firefox. Works fine.
Try clearing your browsers cache or go to your join form and refresh with CTRL-F5. It's similar to F5 except with CTRL it clears the cache for that page.

I always clear the cache when I am working each and every time. Usually when i get this far into it, I will go onto the server and manually delete it just to make sure. I can now successfully join using the Facebook mod but still have issues in firefox...

Cleared all cache manually. Cleared browser cache completely (including cookies just in case), cntl F5 join page, even went in and disabled popup protection for towtalk.net, all to no avail....I am using the latest version of Firefox, vs 19.0. on an XP machine, fully updated...

As far as i know. Firefox 19 is a beta.
I cannot test with windows XP. But on windows 7 firefox is only up to 18.0.1. 19 is a beta and i do not install betas.

Ok, let me redress my Firefox and see what happens. Might be an issue interacting with the beta... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
That's it. The beta version of Firefox and the date picker are incompatible. I went ahead and sent a bug report back to Mozilla along with a link to my join page. I suggest a small disclaimer on the top of the join page to warn people that beta browsers may be incompatible?

I cannot even get to the site. Server not found error.
If it's a fresh install i am guess one of tow things. Either the built in spam filters are stopping it, or most likely JS problems due to the JS caching which should be off by default on new installs due to the number of servers it's does not work on.
