Just lost almost everything I had!

I can't believe it! I am sooooo upset! After working on this site almost non-stop for over a month....I had everything the way I wanted it except having RMS so my videos and video phone would work. I moved the site to hostforweb to have root access and everything worked last night when i went to bed.....this morning....it had reverted back to how it looked over a week ago.....before I had made MAJOR changes and got the site the way I want it! I had done a complete backup before making the change so I thought I was ok....when the problem came up I went to pull up the backup and it and all of my backups are gone! I have never been so frustrated! I totally do not know what to do! I am ready to stroke out!!!! I guess I have to start over! Only, I am so frustrated I can't even see straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you still have a copy of your site on your old host? ... or were your major changes made once you moved to HFW?

I take it your backups were on the server only?  If I understand this correctly, it sounds like HFW had some sort of failure, and restored your site from one of their own backups.  If that's the case, I'd be really PO'd.

If you need somebody to go on a road trip with you to kick somebody's ass at HFW, let me know.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

I'm sorry to hear your loss and I hope an explanation can be found.  If all this happened with in the past 2 days of you moving, I don't know how HFW could have restored an old backup of your site since you have only been with them for 2 days now.  If there was a failure, I suppose they could have went through your files and restored a backup you may have made a week ago.  This all seems too weird though.

So for next time, I recommend when you make a backup, download it to your computer.  For extra protection, make 2 copies of your backup: keep one on your computer, and put the other on an external hard drive or burned to a cd.  A reliable, stored backup of your website is your life line because you never know what could happen.

I am working with both host providers trying to work it out. The old host says they still have my backup before I made the change. That's great news! It's just be hard to get it all worked out because of name servers being changed and ftp connections, ect. But, at least I feel like all is not lost at this point......somehow we will get it all worked out! It just felt good to get it off of my chest! Today will be a better day! Thanks!
