Language Settings

In Profile Edit or Profile I wish to setup a drop down list for Profession and Eduction. So I went into Settings>Predefined Values and found the one for Education for example.

I see all the boxes and I realize that the left most box (value) is where the various choices are to be placed, but the question is I do not like the way the variables are worded on the next column (LKey), how can I change those and how are they to be entered; like this - _Polytech Graduate or Polytech Graduate or _Polytech_Graduate? What difference does it make here in the LKey, what does it represent? Can I change these to whatever I want?

Kindly some detail advise would be greatly appreciated.

LKey means Language key. You can put anything you want there, but if you need to be able to transulate those to other languages then you should use a language key there.

All Language keys start with a underscore. So _Polytech Graduate can be a language key. Polytech Graduate is not.

So i would suggest you use _Polytech Graduate then go to the language section after and create a new key named _Polytech Graduate and put the english version of the text in as Polytech Graduate

Doing it this way will allow the key of _Polytech Graduate to be transulated to other languages if you should need to.

 Sorry Deano, the LKey looks like it starts with a double underscore, is that correct?

Sorry for the delay. I had to verify things.

No. A double underscore is not needed. But if used then it also has to be used when creating the key in the languages settings.

The sex predefined values seem to be the only ones in there that are using a single underscore. The rest are doubles.

I do not know the reason as to why double underscores are used there. Perhaps it was boonex's way to identify those keys as keys used for the predefined values. But i am only guessing on their thinking on that one.

However i have verified it is not necessary.

 Mr Magic;

Thank you sir.

I too just had to make sure, not being very technical and all. Clumsy hands you see.

Does not make sense though; double underscore...hmmmm who would have thought. It is a secret society back there..

Sorry Deano;

Hope you can help further, cause I do not want to make a mess.

When you are in admin builder, profile fields, there is a new_item which you can add and configure, within it is the ability to add various values members can choose if you have several options with a dropdown or radio buttons.

So for instance lets take School Attended would be the question,

System name - SchoolAttended

Caption - School Attended (this would display on the profile)

Type - Selector (as we will have several possible answers)

In advance tab

Selector - Drop Down or Radio

Possible Value: Now in this box I will list various possible answers; one per line

Used Lang Key; LKEY

Question is - will doing the method above be fine, or do I have to go into Admin>Settings>Predefined Values, Enter the Values and make all the _LKey values then go to the all of the above and then go to Language Settings and enter each of Lkeys with the associated values?

The first option above certainly is much more effecient and quicker, but what is the difference. Will I in the future be able to use the first method (the top one here) to do searches against?

Kindly help please.
