Language problem

Hi I use dolphin in my local site. after people writes their profile in their language and apply, local characters like "æ" is being missed. We cant see these characters when we look him or her profile. I think there is a problem with database language settings ? to allow all characters in profiles, profile title and anywhere else , what should i do ? Should i switch my database settings to my  language or utf-8 or something else. please help...

i have the same problem, everytimes i write a ä (ae) they stop translate end end of the script, whats wrong
