Login landing page

I know this has been covered, and I've tried all the solutions mentioned through searching, but Deeno has apparently gone and none work anymore:

This SHOULDN'T be a problem in this well developed of a product, and it seriously makes me think twice about a purchase.

How does one change the destination page when a user logs in? I am looking to emulate a facebook environment and would like logged in users to go straight to the home page not members.

you sure you did a search ? You sound like an old Indian man , hence the nick anti-social.

and Deano is here, ain't go no where ni**** [<--- I hope this isn't the word I think it is... now is it? Your 'old Indian man' statement is already on the borderline.... Moderator Edit: Zarcon]

I really do not even know why my name was even mentioned. But my name, if the original poster was even referring to me is not spelled correctly, so it may not even be me.

I also do not recognize the original posters nickname as anyone who has ever contacted me.

I also cannot find a single post by this person in any topics that i have ever posted in, so i don't really get it.

@luclonely need to take a gander at my edit to his post..

Nothing to see here

Sorry for the misspelling Deano. Your name came up because its on the mod for the issue (in the link posted) and I read several other conversations you had with folks trying to resolve the issue as well as several other possible solutions.

I have already installed and tried the mod linked, and I get the option to change it in advanced settings but changing it does nothing. Cache and temp files cleared. Closed browser. Even tried logging in on a different browser. I'm not particularly familiar with PHP but copy and paste shouldn't exceed my capabilities I would hope. I checked my work a few times and I THINK I have accomplished what was outlined in the text file.

If I sound "cranky" it's because I'm just a bit frustrated after trying a few different packages like Dolphin. It seems to me this is such a basic function (determining landing page for buttons) that had apparently been asked about quite some time ago that it should be in the default package. The granularity for other functions seems quite in depth, yet this basic function has been ignored, and it makes me wonder what other functions I'm going to find missing.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, and it seemed you had gone because several of the links I found relating to you were coming up broken or unavailable. I suspect that was because I hadn't paid my 5$ yet, which I have now.

Then the proper place to bring it up would have been in the forum where you saw it.

Anyhow. There are only two explanations if my mod does not work. Considering its free and has been installed and operational on hundreds of sites, it has been well tested.

So either

1) Source change not done properly. Code either in wrong place, or code for wrong version of dolphin used or editor used that is not php code compatible such as the built in windows notepad or wordpad which can damage php code.

OR

2) Some other mod is installed that is redirecting.

Also note that the mod redirects normal logins only. It does not handle redirects for other connect mods like facebook connect.

No other mods. Clean install. This was the first issue I found when trying to develop the environment I need, so I stopped here for now. Eventually I plan to integrate location services.

I'm using notepad to read and copy your text file, but I'm pasting into dreamweaver and saving from there. I know thats overkill but it was the only PHP compatible program I had installed. Are you suggesting the text copy out of notepad could be corrupting character data?

I'm doing the member.php over now for the 5th time. Maybe doing it while the sun is out will help.

Here is a decent editor for php code.

http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Attached is a copy of member.php modified for dolphin 7.1.4

This is also in operation on my demo site. http://demo.deanbassett.com

Also note. If your testing this by logging in with a admin account on a unlicensed version of dolphin, it will not work. Test with a normal user account. The redirect that occurs when admin logs into a unlicensed dolphin site interferes with the redirect of my mod.

I also updated the market entry. http://www.boonex.com/m/Redirect_to_any_page_after_logon_ to reflect the change in dolphin 7.1.4 that prevents redirects from working for admin logins.

Yea.

I have been here answering questions all day.

And an entire week of 0 sales.

Sometimes i wonder if it's even worth it. I don't mind helping out, but this week has been a bit much.

Thanks for your help Deano. I'm pretty sure I had multiple issues, not the least of which was not knowing the admin account wouldn't redirect, and i was uploading the replacement member.php with my hosts web control panel it it kept not overwriting but not telling me.

Is there legend or key for what structure to use in the General dialog? I get that m/news/index/ gets me to news, but what is the convention for other locations?

Quote · 20 Oct 2013

Not quite sure i am getting the question.

I will try to break it down. There really are no set rules for the urls except for this.

m/news/index

The m is a permalink reference and translates to modules/?r=

Where news is in that url would be the folder the module is in.

The rest can be anything. many modules default to home or nothing after that.

So basically any url that starts with m after the domain name is a module url. Not all urls are modules so not all of them have the /m part of the url.

If your going to work with dolphin. Here is a list of tools i suggest all dolphin owners have.

Agent Ransack. http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack - Allows you to search through a local copy of your sites files to find things. Useful for finding where a specific phrase or word appears in the sites php or css files.

Notepad++. http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ - A editor safe for use on php files and UTF8 encoded files.

WinSCP. http://winscp.net/eng/index.php - A free FTP and SFTP client for uploading/downloading files to/from your server. Also note that i have used a lot of FTP clients over the years, and this one has proven to me to be the most reliable free client.

Firebug. https://getfirebug.com/ - Plugin for firefox that makes finding and editing your sites CSS a breeze.

A image editor such as Paintshop Pro or Photo shop or whatever you are comfortable with.

Also. Helpful tip. During your sites development do not run any caching. Turn off all dolphins caching and do not run caching services such as cloudflare. Firebug will not work properly with caching on, and caching interferes with changes you make. So caching is not to be active until your site is complete.
