Looking for a new host

Hi,

We have a Dolphin app with almost 1k users.  Our current hosting has been a tough experience.  I have contacted all the hosting sites recommended by Boonex but none will provide references.  I really need to communicate with other site owners who run global communities to find out what there experiences are with hosting.

I'm not looking to create a slagging off session of hosts so would prefer your positive comments only.  I want to know of hosts that give excellent service, know what they are doing, are pro-active and helpful and offer value for money.  I'm not looking for cheap.

Anyone?

I am with Apthost (www.aphost.com) they are very positive and helpful. I have been with them for 2 years. I have two Dolphin sites with them (D6.1.4 and D7RC1).

they are doing a special on VPS hosting also.

let me know how you get on and no I do not work for them!!.

All the best,

Stuart

At least you should disclose that you're are the head of the company when recommending yourself, and not an objective user of the service.  Those people both signed their real names on those complaints.

I have a low cost host that I have had really good luck with:  Alterhosting.com They use Plesk, which I understand that some people don't like, and there are no RMS services, but they have really gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping me get Dolphin up and running.   When I couldn't get my join form to work, they loaded Dolphin and discovered the problem in one of the modules - something I wouldn't really expect from a low cost host.   My site is also reasonably fast - not like you would get from a VPN or anything, but not bad.

With a good load why not try managed dedicated hosting and get your own box.  Its very easy to setup and being managed the company will help you install the RMS and other php necessities you need.  If your interested in a good reliable dedicated managed host letme know via private mail and I'll tell you who I'm using (and I don't own the company, it's a multimillion dollar host with own datacenter).

How about a list of hosts that are providing full services, including the updated RMS for D7? I'm not asking for reviews, just a list so i can do my own homework.

PS, Arvixe is not supporting D7 right now in a shared environment and won't be until the software is out of RC and stable. If you contact them, you can get your name added to an email list to inform yiou the moment it becomes available.....

One more PS, You could buy a dedicated server with Arvixe for $105 a month if your budget allows. A conversation with them revealed they would have no problem doing that and installing the necessary updated RMS and provision the server to meet all the needs of D7.

I am currently, temporarily on an Arvixe shared hosting account.  I found out the same thing as SkyForum when I contacted them.

I currently have a D6.1.6 site and D7RC site hosted there.  No probs with the D6 site on that hosting account.  Been happy with them.  But I do have some problems with D7.

I have D7 RMS temporarily hosted with Dolphininstalls.com for $5.50/mo.  It works fine with video im and conferencing, but I cannot record video or sound and they don't know why.

Video playback is also a little laggy sometimes.  Maybe that is the shared hosting.

So, I also would like to know the best solution for hosting for a D7 site that is currently available.

My funding people are asking me what I need to get things setup correctly and get the site up and running and stable.

They don't want to hear that I am trying to get answers.  I can spend the money as soon as I can find out the answers for what I need to spend it on, and proper hosting is very important with Dolphin.

Any help is appreciated.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
