Lost 2 months work

Ok, Not a good day for me. I have a backup of last DB version i was using . yet if I try to install new final version of code and restore Database, all the profiles are screwed up. My only recourse it seems is for me to install vanilla system and relive the last two months of work I spent customizing forms, layouts and more...

UNLESS

you can tell me how I can NOT have to do that?

What happened?  Is the backup recent - from the same version at least?   The screwed up profiles could be as simple as a cache clean, but I think we need to know more about your situation.

Well his title says lost 2 months work.

Well D7 Final has not been out for 2 months, so if the backup is 2 months old, it will not match the final. The database structure has changed a bit.

The back was rc3 version I took before I installed the final version ( I skipped the last couple of RC versions. I tried cleaning cache etc but still getting errors ( see earlier post). I think its cos I created new membership roles and the profiles dont match ro something weird. Im not having a good day generally,so I know Im not thinking as logically as I should, but whatever I tried it would break aomewhere.. either no profile viewed or other header errors. I dont think the db restore works too well perhaps. I tried also direct thru mysqladmin but it still gets messed up.. I will try again tomorrow. but I guess my question is was there so major schema change in the db structure between RC3 and release?

thanks for the feedback tho

How many members?  Are your media directories still intact?   I'm thinking you might try a fresh install of RC3 in some directory, do a database restore, and start all over from there.

Hi Caltrade.

OK , its a catch 22 situation I think. I can restore my rc3 database with all its media/news/tags/categories/forums/etc etc in tact. There are only 10 members at the moment but some are for new roles I created under rc3. eg I create member ,, hes standard. I edit profile in admin, and change/create a Clinician role ( this client site of mine is for doctors etc) And so on for about 7 of these profiles.

Now if I click on any of these profiles from the admin members menu, I get a blank profile page.. nada cept header and footer.. If I login to main site as that member, I can view profile fine. The issue is I can only edit the ROLE's from within the edit profile page via admin to set a new role. And the first time in, it wont load that page   cos the role value in the db does not yet exist ( cos I cant add it ;).. if that makes sense

With 10 members I think I would be tempted to doing it by hand.  Did they post profile pictures?  Download those, then enter those 10 profiles with your own email address (so they don't get alerts) - or if you can log in, then export the profiles table. Maybe a fresh D7 install is in order - salvage what you can.   This will probably look like a smaller disaster in the morning.

Yeah. last night I started to add new members in the reconstituted system.. BUT I still cannot see the profiles to edit, and images/avatars either I have no access or dont display. so there is some weird permissions thing going on now. Working on it now. will update here if I get it fixed. thanks for the reply tho.

Hello,

You could try starting again from a dolphin rc3 installation.  upgrading to each rc4, rc5, then final.  That might keep everything 'playing together'.  Also, templates (so I've read) created in the rc versions, do not neccessarily 'plug' into Dolphin 7... So perhaps leave all templates as 'UNI' and modifiy template/css files by hand - comparing each to your 'rc3' template/css files.

hope this helps.
