Made changes in templates/base

Ok yeah i know i have screwed up big time but i have been doing all my changes to my site through the 'base' template and not a sub template eg 'uni_template'

So now if i want to add a new template to my site and change it through admin>settings>advanced settings>template

it wont make any changes,

I have done all the main changes in 'Base' like the backgroung colour, page block changes, font size etc

is there anyway i can do it so the base is made into a new template (with all of the changes i have already done in tact) and then re-upload it to 'templates' then do a fresh install of 'base' ??

In the short of it i want to be able to keep my changes i have done in my 'base template' but need to do it so it's a new template and add a fresh copy of the base template (as i made changes to my current base template by mistake)

If anyone can understand this at all and could please help then that would be great..

Thanks in advance

Charlie

It depends on the kind of changes made.

If it's just CSS changes, then it could possibly be done.

If any changes were made to any of the base scripts in the scripts folder than i would have to say no.

 Thanks mate,

I know its pretty hard to understand, this is pretty much my problem.....

Please dont ask why but instead of copying tmpl_uni, changing the name, modding it to what i wanted then uploaded it as tmpl_custom to templates i for some reason modded my website via the base folder in templates,

So what i need to do is hopefully upload a fresh copy of the 'base' folder, but before i do so i want to copy all the files i have modded in the base folder, and create a new template with those files so i then have 'tmpl_custom' in the templates section instead of my custom template being in 'base' , i have tried to compress the 'base' folder, download it, win-zip it, change the name from base to tmpl_custom compress and re-upload it to 'templates' then upload a fresh copy of base, but this doesnt seem to work.

Any urgen help would be great

Thanks

Thanks for replying deano, i have made a cpl of little changes in the base scripts regarding changing nicknames to fullnames, but these changes can be re implemented at a later stage after i have sorted the whole change back to default 'base' and adding custom template,

Would this at all be easy to do? would it just be a case of copying files in the modifyed 'base' folder and changing name to custom template and then uploading a fresh 'base' folder? obviously it wouldnt be this easy of i would of done this by now myself :s

thanks

I would try this.

Make a copy of the tmpl_uni folder.

Rename to tmpl_custom

Edit file tmpl_custom\scripts\BxTemplName.php and change the name UNI to custom.

Now delete all files in tmpl_custom\css\

Copy files in base\css\ to tmpl_custom\css\

That should get you a working copy of your template.

Great, i have done all of the above and im just about to upload the custom template to the templates section, but before i do so, in the base folder i have customed i also customed the header/footer files, so as i have only copied the css files from 'base' to custom css section and uploaded a new copy of base folder then the header/footer files will be replaced and changes will be lost to those files, do i need to copy these files to and add to my custom template or copy to the new copy of base?

thanks

Yes.

Copy all modified html files from base\ to tmpl_custom\

Also copy any modified images from base\images to tmpl_custom\images

Just do not copy any of the scripts. The script names are different as well as the class names. So the ones from base will not work in a template script folder.

Just make a copy of your current base folder before you replace it with a origional. This is so you can get it back in case this does not work. It should work, but you never know.

You should also shut off all dolphins caching while you are doing this and clear the cache. Do not turn the cache back on until you are done.
