Main chat issues,

The main chatroom seems to be having some issues. Some of my members are complaining that it will never finish opening for them and they can't use it. These same members also tell me they can't chat in the shoutbox on the front page even though their permissions are right. They can see others chatting but they can't seem to get it to work for them.

I have asked them to send me details about their operating systems, browsers, etc.

I noticed just recently that my Laptop which uses Windows Vista and IE8 will not open the main chat. It will, however, work perfectly for the shoutbox. I have completely relieved the browser of all it's security settings in an effort but it just won't open. It won't even display the page block for the room. If I use FF on the same machine, it works perfectly.

What does the main chat and the shoutbox use locally to operate properly? What should I be telling my members to check on their machines? I know very little about the ray server and what it needs to operate properly across the different platforms.

An upgrade to the latest flash player solved my Vista - IE8 problems. Could it be that simple?

Sometimes it's that simple.

Other times it may require more extensive repairs. The following procedure is a drastic step which will clean out the flash player plugins and cookies.

Download the flash uninstaller.

Exit all browsers and run the uninstaller.

Clear all flash cookies by removing the folders in C:\Documents and Settings\Your_Windows_Account\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects

Restart computer.

Reinstall flash player. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
