Mass mailer - can't send emails often

I frequently get this cron message when sending emails from the mass mailer or when emails are generated from subscriptions to forums, events, news or any other subscription type.

/usr/sbin/sendmail: can't determine username

My problem is getting worse and currently it looks like all emails are failing from the mass mailer.

I am hosted with Arvixe on a shared account on their hedgehog server.

The problem started when I upgraded to 7.1.4 but around the same time Arvixe changed the php version (now PHP 5.2.17) and they also migrated me to a different server.

Is this likely to be a server or php issue? - any information to steer me in the right direction appreciated

or ... is there likely to be an issue with my dolphin installation that is preventing access to the database to pick up usernames and email addresses?

Help please

Cheers

This is a sendmail issue, it isn't Dolphin related. Did you open a support ticket yet? If you give me the ticket number I can speed it up a little.

When it says username it's talking about your account name. If I had to take a guess it has to do with them relocating you to a different server.

Ok my issue has been fixed.

Arvixe recommended that I set up the smtp mailer in Modules, smtp mailer.

Once this was set up all cron errors have disappeared.

The reason for cron errors when not using smtp was not explained but for those of us who just want things to work and have enough technical knowledge to be dangerous, the solution is more important than the cause.

SMTP mailer was very easy to set up and get going. Don't know why I hadn't done it before but c'est la vie.

Cheers
