Member with no username

I saw a member with no username. It shows on the member page, a grey avatar with no username. How does that happen, I tried to join without a username and could not. Any ideas?

Perhaps the user created a username when joining, but removed the username after membership was verified?

This happened to 2 new members. Spoke to one and understood exactly the situation; I have a splash page and a 2nd Join page. Once they register on the splash page, the second page requires them to enter the Captcha code and agree to Terms.

Heres is where the glitch is; the 2nd join page also shows the Menu on top and if they click on one of the menu choices it takes them to that mode which basically has the registration process incomplete with a blank username. So admin will be able to view the member, but it will have no username, only email. Admin at this point cannot go into their profile to view anything.

Any Solutions? Need urgent Help.

It sounds like something the person who created the splash page would have to fix.

Yes, I will check with the designer. What is form validation?

Quote · 16 Jan 2012

form validation is very helpful because it will not submit the form until the form is filled properly. you can check a demo at my site buddynet.in it will not submit the form until all fields that are required is filled and in correct format and Dolphin default form also have form validation.

Using the RPX login or facebook modules allows this to happen,

any site using these sign up methods allow for partial membership creation, but they do not create a blank account if not followed all the way through.

So mscott is most likely right, the splash page is injecting  the data before the "submit" button on the final page is pressed.

then in that case he should put that captcha on the same page or hide those link for visitors.

If the form will start submitting data to the database than no use of the captcha because when a bot will signup that data will be submitted to the DB and even if the bot don't fill captcha that will not matter because they got their account on the site. So, i don't think the template developer can do that type of mistake.

And thats quite possible that maybe RPX module is used during signup if you provide it.

Can i have your site address to take a look?

Splash page or not.

Perhaps someone with some extra time could see if this bug exists on dolphin with its join form setup on multiple pages just to make sure this is not a dolphin bug with multiple page join forms.

Which is what I think it is.Luckily I happen to know one of the two members this happened to, who I spoke to over the phone and asked him to describe each step he took, which then made it clear as to where this situation is arising from.

@Prashank25 - If it were injecting the info before it goes to the next page, then why would the username be blank, since that is the very first question on the registration process.

What I have done now is changed it so they automatically get accepted and there is no need for confirmation. I thought I knew why this was happening, but I tested it and it was not the cause.

Let me get more info from the member and I will email you the website and all the login info.
