First off, I have the Martinboi Membership Mod installed because I use Authorize.net as a processor. That part of the membership module seems to work fine, however I don't seem to get the basic membership module features to work as it seems they should. My intent was to build a site that was only PAID MEMBERS, meaning when they click on Join they would automatically have to sign up for a paid membership. Unfortunately I've found that is not possible as the basic design of dolphin will not allow that. I am forced to offer a free or trial version as a default. I have set up a 1 day trial registration with limited capabilities/access with an option to Upgrade to the paid membership. The problem I'm having is that no matter what I sellect for a trial period, renewal length, or whatever, the Membership Status in the Free Trial Membership always says "Expriry: NEVER" and, after the one day is up, the membership still remains active and there is no message or anything that they need to upgrade. How do I force the registrant to upgrade if I can get the Trial to ever have an end (even with the limited access to the site). Also, because of the Free Trial or Free Join Membership Flaw in the Dolphin architecture (in my opinion), I get a constant stream of spam or bogus registrations that I have to delete.
Any help with this would be great.
Thanks,
Cody

Hello Cody
You may enable default Promotion membership level and configure it to have limited capabilities (a Trial membership level with some features available for Paid members). Then configure Standard membership level to have VERY limitid capabilities. In this case the Promotion membership level will be granted automatically aftyer Join and expires after specified number of days. Then user will have VERY limited Standard membership level and need to upgrade to some Paid level to have all necessary capabilities.

Thanks Anton. I will try that. What about the fact that the Expriy date says NEVER even though I have set limited number of days. Is this a problem with my membership module or is this some sort of default thing in Dolphin? It just seems like I make changes to Membership stuff in Admin but that part never changes.
Thanks,
Cody

When it comes to memberships you have a lot of control on how much a member can and cannot do. For instant in the Page Access Control you can determine what is visible to the member level. In the Settings>membership you can control the actions for each level.
So they may have a basic membership level, it will actually not allow them to do much at all. Even their viewing will be restricted.
I think with all this you should be fine. I have a similar situation, but in my case I want a certain level to be free, but it has little they can do.

Hello
If you enable Promotion membership level via admin panel -> settings -> membership levels -> settings block -> 'Enable promotional membership' setting and specify its duration in 'Number of days for promotional membership' setting, the newly joined members should see the exact number of days instead of NEVER and Promotional membership level will expire after specified number of days.
Note. It won't be applied to the previously joined members.

Thanks Anton. I have had the "Enable promotional membership" checked with the number of days, etc. as you suggested, however, I think the error I made when I first set up the site was to delete the "Promotional" membership from the list. It is obviously still in my database sys_acl_levels however I can't seem to get it to be visible now through the Membership Module in the dolpin admin area. Stupid mistake looking back now. Any idea on how to get the default "Promotional" membership level to be visible again in the dolphin admin area?
Thanks again for all your help. Maybe it would be faster to just pay you to get things set up correctly? I'm not sure if I'm getting closer to fixing it or making it worse.
Sincerely,
cody
