Migration Advice Needed

Have a question to put out there to the Boonex Nation, would love some feedback.

Our site is currently on a shared server, we have a dedicated server ready that we are moving the site to.  I put the move on hold till I figure the best way to do this first.

We were going to move the site to the new server then upload D7 and do the migration (like the 'temp' instructions suggest), but then it was suggested that we do it a different way.  That we install D7 on the new server, then move our current site to a 'sub folder' on the new server, then do the migration,  what do you think about doing the migration in this manner?

Any other suggestions?  I only want to do this Once.

My personal opinion would be to have BOTH Dolphin installs on the same server before trying to migrate. You will rule out alot of headache this way. Im assuming you are just upgrading to a dedicated server using the same hosting company.

Thanks Chris, yes I am with the same hosting company and upgrading to a dedicated server.  But my question is should I even move my D6 site over first, make it live then install D7, then do the migration.  Or, should I first install D7 so it is live and then move my current D6 site into a subdirectory where the D7 site will be and do the migration.  I hope that makes sense.  I am still unclear about the migration process here, I just don't want to jack up my site, it's around 60 gigs right now and don't want to create a big mess... lol... I know it's not as big as a lot of others that have already done the migration, that is why I just want to get some insight on this... :)  Thanks for the help.
