Hello everyone,
I have asked a few of u a brief question on this issue however now I think I need the full force of UNITY! :O) so here is the deal:
I have 6.16 installed on host monster. I have about 200 members. The site is larger than 500megs. Well there is much you cant do with boonex dolphin and use Host Monster so I installed D7 on another host server. Fresh install, fresh data based. Now here is my issue. I want to migrate all my members over to the D7 server. It would be nice to do so without wiping out my D7 install, zipping 6.16 and unzipping 6.16 to the new server, bring over old db. Then running a D7 fresh install in a sub folder with a new DB. Just to do this migration. As I want my D7 in the root not a sub. I have been told all I need to do is put in the path to my old site in the data migration module. Well that doesn’t work as I get a error message that says “Sorry the directory or head.inc.php file was not found” Host monster provided me with the url for my 6.16 site as I have pointed the name server to the D7 site. The 6.16 is a add on domain to my main site which is not a dolphin site. Now in following this thread http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#topic/Upgrading-from-6-1-6-.htm you would think all ya need is the old database. But how would the migration know where to pull the data from? So I am now stuck after 48 hours of trying all kinds of stuff to not spend 48 hours to move all them files around. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I am all ears. – now lets get unified

it's simple
D7 is on a new server in root ?.... Here's what you need to to transfer your old site d6 to the new server (to subdir.) after that use the data migration module that should do it of course you have to make sure your d6 site is working on your new server & don't forget to set up cron jobs on both sites |
well so far d6 isnt working so i am thinking of doing a fresh d6 install in to a sub folder and import the old d6 data base into the new D6 then try to mirgrate . if this doesnt work i think i will just go in to the old d6 data base and send everyone a email saying Sorry Charlie now re apply or nice knowning ya lol to all others d7 in a sub folder then migrate be done with this - oh brother |
Ok folks here is the latest and greatest as I have gotten most of my migration done. I think my d6 back up was corrupted so all my members didn’t get moved over. But the good news is ½ did. Now here is what I have to report.
- ya want a quick answer to your question ask me
If ya want a correct answer, ask these folks http://dolphin-techs.com It may cost ya, but its worth every dime, penny, and dollar you lose in time by not asking them. They saved ½ my butt! LoL
- I suggest if ya have cpanel go look and see if you have the auto installer for Dolphin 7. If you do use it.

I had to install a fresh D6.16, in a sub folder, making up a new d6.16 Data base as well. Then I went in to the inc/header.inc.php file and pointed it to my old d6 data base which I had preloaded.
- I then using filezilla uploaded all my picture, music, videos (music & videos are in the Ray folder) files from the old d6.16 to the new d6.16
- Now everything was back to working just fine so I started my migration

crons job was incorrect. Here is what them pennies, dimes, and dollars will save ya http://dolphin-techs.com assisted me with fining that the crons job I copied had a unneeded space between public_html/ and periodic . who would have known – well not I. Heck I would have been there for weeks trying to figure this one out. But it didn’t stop there. they had to disable the .htaccess so renaming it to .htaccess_old disabled it, then they called the cron.php in my browser as this forces it to run or is supposed to I think. Any way, it worked. Here is the url http://yourname.com/periodic/cron.php
- what did I learn well sometimes its best to get someone who knows than to try to figure it out too long by your self. You cant just migrate without the D6.16 files and Data base. All of this needs to be on the same server, but the d6 and or d7 should be in different folders than the other. Load all your Mods before you migrate.
- also to prolaznik i didnt need to run crons for D6.16, i had them in and was told to delete them out so i did. but ya post was on point yo- good looking out. it got me on the right track.
I hope this helps as it helped me and oh thanks again to the staff at http://dolphin-techs.com
now design tips any one .......
