Multiple Ratings From Same IP

Hi,

I have members who access my site from the same IP address, so they are unable to vote on things if they've already been rated by someone from their IP.

I've seen similar (but not identical) requests... but haven't found a way around this.

Is it possible to replace the IP checks with a user ID check?  If so, does anyone happen to know how I would go about it?

Thanks!!

Hmm... would anyone be able to just point me in the general direction?  I'm pretty new to Boonex, although not to community sites, so I just don't know what I'm looking for.

Anyone?  :)

Bit of a strange request, anyways I think Dolphin works via cookies and not IP adresses, so they can do it by clearing their browsing history/cookies or by using different browsers.

Thanks for the reply!

There is one location in particular where quite a few people access our site, there are about 50 computers on the network, and if one person from this network rates an item, no one else is able to, even on a totally different computer.

We also have family members who access the site from different computers, but the same home network, and they are also unable to rate or vote after another person in their home has done so.

Is this a difficult thing with Dolphin?  I'm beginning to think it must be.

Ended up having to purchase a mod to do this.  Still doesn't work 100% correctly, and the voting is buggy now... :P

Have you found a solution for your problem?  We are experiencing the same problem and this is a very tipical scenario where thousands of employees are accessing the Dolphin site through the same firewall or proxy server. All of them will be identified by Dolphin as from the same IP address.  We have run several tests and we have confirmed that Dolphin is checking the IP address instead of Cookies.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I tried to explain this problem to Boonex over a year ago.  They never could get it through their thick heads why restricting votes per IP address won't work.  Well here we are.... almost two years after I first called attention to this problem.  This is a perfect example of what I tried to tell them in this thread:

Hey Boonex... it doesn't work!     Now there's a fckn surprise... eh?

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.
