Need help! Trigger on Join

I have looked at the member module to try and find a hook to have a function/procedure run when a user Joins.

The goal is to automatically process a value then insert it into the database field of the module.

I find it increasingly difficult to use the classes/structures of this system since it's really all over the place.

What would the correct procedure be to hook on to the JOIN button at the Login form?

Best way is to listen to the JOIN alert which is fired on joining with

        bx_import('BxDolAlerts');
        $oZ = new BxDolAlerts('profile', 'join', $iId1, 0, array('status_text' => &$sStatus1));
        $oZ->alert();
