Newbie...Installation Problems?

Hi all. I am having trouble getting a demo version up on my local computer. When I install all goes well until this one part where it needs a path to ImageMagick and three paths need to find that and then I have no idea what cron jobs or how to set it up is. That is during installation.

After install about half the site works and the other half is al 404 errors...even after I created a couple new profiles. It will make a url like http://localhost/dolphin/username but it still turns up an error page. As a matter of fact most of the site turns up the 404 message.

I am also new to this Ray stuff to run video I guess? I have read alot of the instructions and such, but it is hard to understand some of the terminology (and the cron jobs too). I have made sure my php.inc file has the proper settings and naturally file permissions don't matter locally.

Please tell me what I need to do to get this fully running on my computer so I can test the software to see if I want to buy a licence.

BTW...I am running xampp to provide my apache, mysql, php, phpadmin if that helps.

Thank you for your time :-)

peace out,

daddlogan

To enable this module it just takes a little tweak of your httpd.conf file which will be found in xampp\apache\conf

#LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

in the httpd.conf file this is line 118, but it may vary so just search for "mod_rewrite" in the file. Now, simply remove the comment (#) from before the line, and save the file. You'll need to restart Apache for the changes to take affect, and you should now find you can use clean URLs with XAMPP.

If clean URLs still aren't working you can also try setting 'AllowOverride All' to your working directory. Again, you'll have to search for this in your http.conf file, but you may find it referenced several times, so check that you are modifying the correct version. Here is how mine is set:

<Directory "/opt/lampp/htdocs">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI Includes
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>

Did both things as you said and re-started apache. No change. As a matter of fact mod_rewrite was already un-commented. the other one I did have to change to "All"

I appreciate your effort, so thank you. Do you have any other ideas that might pan out? Are there certain tests I can do along the way to troubleshoot things. Like I said, I get the homepage, I can log into admin, I can upload photos and I can view a few of the internal pages. That is about it.

The only other thing i can tell you to do is log into the admin pannel and turn off permalinks.

log on to admin click on setting then click on permalinks at the bottom.  then uncheck all the boxs you see and save the changes.

i am trying to remember what i did to get permalinks to work on my xampp set up and i am pretty sure it was those two things i mentioned above.

Hi...the only thing that worked after changing the permalinks was the fake profile I set up. That is all. Everything else is still "404!" I woner if it has anything to do with xampp because I have never had problems installing software before when I was running a self installes Apache, php, Mysql system??? This is very frustrating.

Is there a "step by step" install instructions anywhere that a normal person can understand? Crons and the Ray also included? I really want to see whta this software can do.

Sorry guys if I a missing things here...just need a little quick guidance to get me going.

When you rebuild Apache do you have PHP Functions: mb_string,xslt and gd -> loading.?! Most of your 'errors' seem to always be resolved when these PHP Functions are properly loaded.

What you are dealing with is called Friendly Perma Links and it allows nice URLs like www.YourSite.com/SuperStarMe as well as clean blog, ads, forums,ETC urls 'friendly' -> seo 'friendly'

Admin Dashboard -> Settings -> PermaLinks

In here all the boxes that 'ARE' checked are displaying in FriendlyURL if you want the UNfriendly version uncheck every box and save. This basically removes the mb_string/xslt effect.

URLs might look 'ugly' but you should see everything it do :)

XAMPP nothing 'pops' to mind that would interfer in anyway with the DOLPHIN process. If you find other wise, let me know :)

Ok...here is what I did. I wiped the whole thing out and started over following all the "WINDOWS" instructions from the installation instructions here on this site.

Once I finished, almost everything works this time. All the 404 error pages are gone! :-)

But, there are still issues so let me list them...

1) When I try to access the forum through the admin panel (under plugins) or by typing in the url I get the following error message:

Warning: domdocument::domdocument() expects at least 1 parameter, 0 given in C:\xampp\htdocs\dolphin\orca\classes\Forum.php on line 1748

Fatal error: Call to undefined method domdocument::loadXML() in C:\xampp\htdocs\dolphin\orca\classes\Forum.php on line 1750

2) When I click on the BOARD or CHAT tab, they try to open but the little flash loading animation just lingers and nothing loads???

I installed Ray and from the admin Panel all is activated, so the flash stuff should work UNLESS I have the general settings for RAY wrong? What should they be on a Windows based machine? Ports??? url of RAY?

Well, that is what is not working yet...but the rest seems to be fine now.

Suggestions welcomed and thank you all fro your help

i am not sure why you are having so many errors with this.   i have the same setup as you at home and must have 20 different dolphin installs on it.   maybe at some point we could do a remote desktop to see whats going on.

Well let me ask this. What should all my parameters be to have RAY working correct? What should I have under SETTINGS on my LOCAL machine? When I goto my admin panel, the RAY panel opens up and all my apps say they are enabled, but yet things like chat, the forum, the board don't load.

That seems to be the only things not working right now- Those flash apps and the forum. Everything else is running fine other than that.

Like I said, I did a WINDOWS install exactly like this site instructed me to.

Thanks again

You need to install an RMS if you have not done that yet to get the chat/boards and such to work or connect to the Free Boonex RMS if your running the free version of Dolphin.  Keep in mind, you also will need to generate the free licenses for Dolphin in order to get Ray to work at all.

Now, if your still having problems then you need to check your ffmpeg.exe file, make sure you have the one for a Windows server.
