Notification mail for every forum thread.

hi,

is it possible to set up a notification mail to every user when i start a new thread in forum. i am using forum to embed NON-YOUTUBE videos and i wish whenever i post a new video my users should receive a notification with the threda title and a automated message from admin.

Sounds like a great way to annoy your members.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

On one hand I can see how some people would want this.  On the other hand, I can see how the other 95% of your members would rush to hit the "Unregister button".

Thinking constructively however, I DO think it would be a great idea if forums were able to mail a member when something they posted, or replied to, got another post...(subscription mode...)

If you are going to send this kind of mail, you need to make sure everyone has the ability to opt in/out of the subscription. One of the biggest issues with running a community is dealing with the email services required for even the most  basic setup. With even a small amount of members, we're talking about hundreds or even thousands of email messages being generated every day as it is. Adding this feature would only increase that problem.

My old site had that function and I eventually gave up using it altogether. It would be better to advertise the forum thread you have posted and allow them to choose whether they want to join a notification program for it or not.

There is also the problem of annoyed members not telling you they no longer like or want the emails they originally signed up for even if they agreed to them in the first place and many will complain to places like spamcop and others in an effort to put the screws to your site. If enough of them complain, even with the initial permissions in place, your email server can be flagged as a spam source. If this happens, you will have a DEVIL of a time getting it removed and your valid emails will start disappearing into the spam vortex of hell.

If you setup your site to allow them to subscribe to different things, I also believe it is a good thing to time them out after 30 days or so to prevent the subscription base from getting too old. Keeping it thinned out will do wonders for keeping you out of the spammers kittybox.

Subscriptions should definitely be at the discretion of the visitor, unless of course this is the whole idea behind your site membership structure.

Skyforums comments on spam are also pertinent to consider, I've just had exactly this issue with a domain on a shared server - the overall effect was that most of the outgoing emails simply get dropped - only a few receiving servers sent a response letting the client know that the server IP was blacklisted - Took a few days to get the blacklisting removed - a big hassle, and only possible due to the shared nature of the IP, trying to get a ban lifted on a domain is a lot harder, so best not even tempt it with automatic subscriptions as these will definitely classed as spam by some.

There are mods available for D6 (I use one on my own site) - perhaps search the marketplace and see if there is a notification mod for D7.

If you don't have any luck, let me know and I will put one together for you.

PHPBB Intergration MOD is the way to go and it's a much better Forum then the built-in Dolphin one.

Hi Everyone, not sure how to ask for support on this site..but here goes...I have Dolphin 7.04 and I've noticed that all module subscriptions work with the exception of BLOGS. I've paid my 300$ license but have never gotten a response from my 'boonex rep' so maybe you guys might have an idea!

I've troubleshooted the problem as much as I can and have only identified that:

the function sendDelivery($aParams) {

in the file:

inc/classes/BxDolSubscriptionQuery.php

is not populating the table:

sys_sbs_queue

I've done research in all the boonex forums and find nothing concerning this issue. Any thoughts or advice would be very very much appreciated :)
