Number of Allowed Actions - Membership Levels

Hi, ok.  I'm trying to limit the number of blogs a person can post to say, 2 every 24 hours.  So I go to Admin|Settings|Membership Levels and select the Standard membership.

Following the descriptions here: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DolphinAdminMembershipLevels

Under the action "Use Blog" I set:

Number of allowed actions: 2 (I've also tried simply 1)

Number of actions is reset every: 24

This action is available since: I've tried "no limit," current day/time, yesterday

This action is available until: I've tried those combinations with "no limit" and some far off date, a few months or years

When I login back as my standard membership user I can always exceed the blog limits with no warnings.

The only other mention I've really seen of this was with regard to Classifieds:

http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/?action=goto&topic_id=Number-of-Classifieds-per-member

But I had the same failed results with classifieds.

What is wrong?

Any updates on this? I've tried putting some restrictions in Standard Membership but apparently they don't have any effect. I can still flood the comment pages whilst I've already set a limit for comment posting (240 per hour). I've enabled the Membership module but still no go. Thanks

Since the product is fairly new, and people are just getting their sites going in the real world, you may have uncovered a real problem that no one has encountered yet.   The testing you have done seems thorough - I will try to replicate this error later.   It could be one of those things that everyone just assumes works, that really doesn't.   Several of those have been uncovered in D7, and we were still finding them in D6 years after the product was first released.

A few years / 7 revisions is fairly new? Smile

Yea, I get the feeling some of these critical things haven't been fixed in 7?

Anyway, some more info:  I was fiddling around one day and it did respond to the number of profile views/time limit.  So that works.  I might use it as a template when I finally get around to fixing the blog limits (I'm currently working on showing # of chat users on the homepage, fixing the poll page to actually show all polls when you click "all polls" rather than none, and fixing the Orca edit/quote features to actually edit and quote, etc. - so it might be awhile).  But that might be a starting point if you want to try fixing it yourself. Laughing

Unless version 7 fixes any of these?  I'm just feeling comfortable/tweaking/fixing version 6 and I haven't seen a bug history or list of differences between the two versions, so I'm not really compelled to attempt the upgrade.

What I'm actually planning right now is to just place either a captcha or javascript submit button timer to somehow control the comments posting. Hmmm... (?)

That could be a useful thing possibly.  We don't have too much trouble with spammers right now.  I'd personally rather limit the number of messages per time period than inconvenience my users with having to fill out a captcha each time.  That way a spammer might only be able to send 20 messages before being caught.

I really just need the blog limits to be a literal blog limits.  Some users can get blog-happy and post 4 right in a row, which doesn't give a fair chance to others who might put more time or thought into their blogs, and is kind of spam in itself.  A captcha wouldn't work for me in that case.  All bloggers on the site need a fair chance to be heard.
