ORCA Forum Not Working!

Everything in ORCA works fine until I go to submit a post.

When I click the submit button the progress bar of my browser starts to go, but then nothing happens.

I have just migrated to a VPS from a shared host and changed all the permissions to 777 for the forum module.  Could I have missed a file?  If so which one controls the post submission?

I tried re-uploading the forum and that didn't work.

Please help!

It maybe because of PHPIDS library, I suggest to disable it for now:  http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/topic/Forum-post-failed-if-set-font-size.htm

Thanks but that did not fix my problem.

Any other suggestions?

Try copying the params.php file from modules/boonex/forum/layout/uni/ and put it in your modules/boonex/forum/layout/blackmax/ directory.

No one seems to know the answer to my problem.  I am about done with dolphin.  the support is aweful and i pull my hair out after putting so much work into this and getting very little help in return:

my forum does not work.  I can create groups and forums, but when i try to post a message and click submit the status bar starts to look like the post is going to get posted, but it doesn't and it just says done with my message still right there in the box.

I have set all my permissions, maybe I missed something?

There are a number of things that can go wrong when moving a site from one server to another.

One of the problems is with files that are created when the script is installed and files that are created by the script during normal operation. These files a normally owned by the user the apache web server is running under. But when moving a site those files become owned by the FTP user account thus preventing the script from properly writing to those files.

The only current suggestion i have which is a drastic measure is to do a recursive chmod to 777 all folders in modules\boonex\forum and recursively all files within those folders.

Also make sure the cache, cache_public and tmp folders in the root of your site are mode 777 and delete all files contained in those 3 folders except any .htaccess file that might exist.

Try to apply the following changeset, it happens on some hosting environments, and this is a fix, I suppose this is your case:

I had the same problem and followed Chris's  instructions.  That seemed to fix the original error messages but now I am getting several more but the forum loads.

I don't want to use the forums but I have to have them loaded for the store module.

These are the errors:

I changed the params.php to call out twi instead of uni also but that did not fix it.  See attached screen capture.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Patti

candothat,

i would have to ask is this same problem evident if you use the uni template or is this something you are facing only with your custom template? because what this has the aura of is that you have a template from a version that was not 7.0.x compatible, and because of that, you are seeing these errors/

My original forum error was somehow related to this answer below because I am using my own custom template which I created from instructions on these forums.

Try copying the params.php file from modules/boonex/forum/layout/uni/ and put it in your modules/boonex/forum/layout/blackmax/ directory.

As I mentioned once I applied Chris's fix the forums actually loaded but were giving me the new errors.

I must say that I was quite surprised to get some immediate help from another moderator "UFO360”.  They pointed me to a php error that involves spaces in the code, they offered to fix it for me but I wanted to try for myself.  I was still confused as to what spaces could be causing these error messages, so I emailed UFO360 back and she got me all fixed up and pointed me to the actual code that was causing the problem so I will be able to resolve this type of error should it occur again.

I must say the forum posts on line about bad forum support so far, for me, have been wrong.  I am pleasantly surprised.

DosDawg,  Thanks also for trying to point out some other possible causes but the spaces as UFO360 showed me was the actual issue.

:)  Onward and upward.  I am sure I will have many more questions as I attempt to learn and modify this software.
