Hello
I have setup a new dolphin site just a few weeks ago and noticed that if I ban a member, this is only temporary and after a while they come back to bother me and the members. So I am wondering if there is any way to make the ban permanent and so that the only way to unban somebody is the admin doing it?
thanks

You could deactivate their account, but they will probably just register a new one. You could block their IP, but that's practically useless, unless you have the option of getting really drastic about it. For my own site, I may eventually block every IP address that doesn't belong to the US. You need to track down the IP address of the offensive member to know what IP blocking options you may have. The most important things to know, are the geo location of the IP, and who it belongs to.
In the US, I have found that the most annoying group of internet users, are school children, that access the internet from the schools computers. They have a tendency to join sites just to annoy people. Most adults just don't have the time. In general, the more you can learn about the nuisance people, the better you can fight their annoying ways.
Do you have email confirmation on? At least they'll need to use a valid email address if they re-register.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Thanks, I do have email confirmation on, plus I have the Access Management Module by AntonLV which is really useful, however my question is simply how to extend the ban to make it permanent,so I don't have to resort to more drastic measures and at least they won't be able to use the same nickname and email address..
I am sure there must be a way?

If you have a dedicated server, then use the servers blacklist, store here all the ip numbers you want to block. Kids first |
Thanks, however (again) I don't want to block IP's, that is already taken care of! I simply and only want a way to make the ban permanent, that's all! If I block the IP , he/she can still use a proxy, in many cases, even just restarting your DSL router would be enough to change IP, so that is not a solution.

Hello Its in reality impossible to get around this kind of suckers whos intention is only to disturb other members. The only thing how you can stop this is to put payment for membership - either sms or paypal or other gateway. - Just set some small price for becoming member - be sure that this sort of people dont gonna pay, if somebody behave agains your site rules cancel his account so he will need pay again for membership - after couple of account cancelling be sure that sort of persons give up and if not at least you get paid :-) |
I believe a better way would be to either have extra administrators or moderators around to help police the site when you're away. Of course, a pay wall also works, but not for a site with free membership. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Did anyone ever find out how to ban members permanently?
If this can't be done, it would be a great feature to add!!!
If bans can't be made permanent, is there some way to set the period of time the ban persists?
