I am using arvixe as the hosts, and have had a dolphin 6 installation on there for a few years.
I'd like to upgrade because I'd like more functinality and security. I also get a lot of chinese accounts being registered each day, and they are uploading spam blogs, as well as somehow infiltrating "admin articles" and adding their own, so each day I have to get rid of 20-30 of these.
My site currently is bsed on a cellphone content sharing idea. I have ringtones and wallpapers for phones and wish to keep all this going. The site is well established and I cant afford any problems.
Ive made an attempt to upgrade by setting up a subfolder and installing dolphin 7 but the migration just hangs and does nothing, so at this stage I am stuck, so it might be better if somene else does it, and my content is kept safe.
I've a ton of things I want to do to the site, and so sitting with a programmer would be useful as well to discuss budgeting.
Anyway, if I go for the upgrade:
* I dont need the "dating aspect" included.
* Wll all categories and names I've assigned stay the same? (ie instead of music categories Ive called it ringtones)
* Will I be able to email the members? I tried this once using the admin function and my host suspended the site because it was sending out bulk email - surely as admin I should be able to contact the members?
* What can I do to help keep the site secure, and safe from spammers?
* Will the upgrade affect SEO? The site has several page 1 listings in Google, so I cant risk losing that which Ive built up.
Otherwise, for the future I want to be able to have a mod done so members can upload, edit and crop their own wallpapers on my site,as well as aringtone maker/editor. I imagine these will need a separate thread though, but for now if you can answer my queries about the upgrade and also quote or suggest a failproof method then I'm all ears.
