Privacy Setting Customization

Unlike members of personnel sites, social network members mostly set their profile to friends only, contacts only or even me only. However, they expect to network with other members who may add or request them as friends or contacts. With Dolphin, once the profile is set to any of the above only the member’s avatar shows.  In essence, the member is isolated, but they could still do anything they want. There’s no option to request their friendship or contact them. Does anybody know how the option to “befriend” or “contact” (like in facebook) can be included alongside the “access denied” message?

Also how do you change the harsh message “Access denied” to something like the member has restricted his profile view to friends only? I know the messages can be changed in the Language Settings page, but how do you change the message specific to this action when a restricted profile is clicked, not the default language.

Please!!!!!

Yes, When user sets his account as "visible only by friends", it is very difficult for another user to request friendship" because the only message on the private profile is "access denied" ! There should be, at least, a button to request friendship...

I'm not sure that it actually works, but supposedly:

If you view the member's profile pic on the Members page (http://yoursitename.com/browse.php) you can do a friendship request even if they are private.

  • Just hover your mouse over their image until a pop up menu appears.
  • Keep in mind it can take a full 30 seconds for the pop up menu to appear, which is beyond ridiculous, but just the way it is.
  • On that popup menu you will find both contact and the friend request buttons for all members no matter what their privacy settings are.
  • You can put those instructions in your FAQ and/or help menu.

Good luck!

it does work, about the 30seconds i have no idea why it would take that long. Did you try to set it to 1 sec in
Timeout before displaying profile info(in seconds)

but what needs to be fixed is, if a profiles is set to friends only or whatever, the submenu is still visible, that's not how it works.

Finally find a solution in boonex tickets for Dolphin 7.0 version !!! Some very sharp modifications to do in some files : So, make a backup of your files and follow carefully the instructions. I've done it and it works ! Private profiles show now a little block with actions : Send message, send to a friend and, most of all BE FRIEND REQUEST !!!
