Private albums and members

I want to make the photo albums a bit more complicated. I want the albums to be default members only. I also want the ability to have one public album by default. I tried to see what file I needed to play with, but the URL for pictures doesnt have a filename at the end. Any help with locating the file and/or with the overall process?
