Problem with profile edits - Google maps?

I am suddenly having trouble with my profile updates - from both admin and the user accounts.  After editing, if when you click "submit" the form just hangs.  The database does end up getting updated, but the screen never refreshes or displays a confirm message.   I am suspecting Google maps since it seems like it started shortly after I installed that module.  Is anyone else having this problem?  - could maps be the culprit, or should I be looking at something else?

To ask a slightly related question, can I remove the maps module to test this.  I went through those updates before to get all the map settings in - will I have to go through that when I reinstall?
