Hello
Ok When I changed my avatar to a different one that I uploaded to test the avatar system, the profile picture changed to the avatar picture. I have fiddled around with ti for a while but try as i might I can find NO WAY to change the profile picture???? Does this mean the member is stuck with ONE profile pic and they can't ever change it unless they upload a new avatar. even changing the avatar to the present ones doesn't change the profile picture.
This seems pretty basic, surely there is a way to change the profile picture. The Switch Profile function is no good because when I logged into a member account I found I could change everyone else's profile which if I was a member i'd be pretty upset if some dude came on switching my profile pics!
So what is going on? Am I missing something here?

Try removing the Basic Profile Pic block....(Moving it down to the inactive blocks area)....Leaving the Profile Pic Switcher Block on the Page by itself...
Does this allow the Profile Pic Switcher Block to work now?
This is an issue I had, and simply removed the Basic Profile Pic Block.
BTW- Profile Photo Switcher is for members to have more than one Profile Pic On their Profile Page, and allows visitors to view the different pics the member sets as a Profile Pics.
ALSO- In admin, there are setting for Avatar and Profile pics....Not sure if that has anything to do with your issue.

There is a checkbox that is checked by default in the avatar module "copy avatar to profile photos". You need to go into the template and change the default on that checkbox to not checked. Not sure why Boonex thought everyone would want to copy a 64x64 pixel avatar image to the profile photo but they did. Geeks, making the world a better place |
As for profile photos, the members can have as many as they want. You can change in the admin if new photos got to the front of the line. The first photo in profile photos is the profile photo that shows up on the profile. Members can change by simply rearranging the images in their profile photo album. And the profile switcher does not change the profile photo, it only lets a member browse though the different profile photos a member has uploaded. Geeks, making the world a better place |
I removed the basic profile block, and left the profile switcher. But its still switching back to the avatar picture. Like there is no way to save it. at present I have a picture of cookie monsters as my profile picture and no way to change it unless I upload a brand new picture. |
/modules/boonex/avatar/templates/base/block_wide.html
find:
<span><input type="checkbox" name="copy_to_profile_photos" id="copy_to_profile_photos" checked="checked" /><label for="copy_to_profile_photos"><bx_text:_bx_ava_copy_to_profile_photos /></label></span>
If you want to keep the copy to profile photo option, just removed the checked="checked", otherwise remove the entire line.

There is no check box..where is it exactly? in the template? because i don't see that at all |

Go to your profile album and delete the cookie monster image. Then make the change I outlined to prevent avatars from being added to the profile photo album.

The checkbox is in the upload part of the avatar page.

clear the caches and you may need to clear the file caches as well, as well as your browser cache. Geeks, making the world a better place |
I took out that line completely. I uploaded a regular picture via photo upload not even a avatar and it automatically switched that picture as my profile picture, which is a bit of a nuisance, imagine someone uploads a picture they want to keep private and it stick it on profile and there's no way to switch it without deleting the whole picture hehehe (the mind boggles!)
the profile photo switcher still doesn't save the selected picture as profile picture it just automatically reverts back to the last photo uploaded. I cleared cashe on several occasions still not working
Is this a bug? I updated to the most recent dolphin recently

The avatar now doesn't go directly to the profile picture but the last picture uploaded definitely does over take the profile picture spot and the profile switcher doesn't work at all, it does switch the profile picture as you view it, but then when you refresh or go to another page it has reverted back. So now I am a bit stumped |

OK, let me go through this again. First of all, the profile photo switcher DOES NOT switch the profile photo, rename that to Profile Photos Viewer. It just lets a member go to another member's profile and look through their profile photos.
Now, the FIRST photo in the profile photo album is the default profile photo. By default, when you upload a new photo into the profile photo album, it puts it in the FIRST spot. A member can arrange the photos in their profile photo album. Normally if a member uploads a new profile photo, they want it to be the current profile photo.
I outlined this before LOL.

Photos are public, members, me only, by the album they are within. By default, the profile photo album is set to public. If they want to upload private photos, they should be in a private album. Of course you can change the privacy level of the profile photo album and then all photos will be private. In Dolphin, privacy is set on the album, not individual photos.

oh! but that's dumb. This is a very convoluted way of managing something as simple as a profile picture! and to say when someone uploads a picture they want it as their profile picture is not quite right, what if they upload pics of their kids or pets or bushes and trees....... and its very hard to figure out how to actually change the profile picture. Why would dolphin make it so difficult in the first place? Is it made difficult on purpose so we can buy yet another mod? |
and to say when someone uploads a picture they want it as their profile picture is not quite right, what if they upload pics of their kids or pets or bushes and trees.......
Then they create a new album and upload them into that album. The profile photo album is designed for profile photos.

It is actually very easy. Go to the profile photo album and move the photo that you wish to be the main profile photo to the first position in the album. It is as easy as dragging and dropping since it is ajaxed.

Voni- GG is right, it's easy once you get the hang of it...
BUT, if you feel spending a few bucks to make it easier and likely more familiar to most of your members-
I don't have it myself, but I have played with it a bit on friend's site and thought it was pretty nice and user-friendly.
Just an FYI

Thanks GG, I finally got my head around the change profile thing. I still find it a bit convoluted for basic members who just want to change their profile pic but I guess for now I can stick a help HTML block telling them how to do it.
Underdog thanks for that link when I next get pocket money i'll buy that nice little mod :)
