Profile and Dashboard

Can someone please explain exactly the purpose of these two sections are please.

What should Dashboard show you?

What should Profile section consists of?

profile can be basic containing informations of the users or you can allow it to contain informations/blocks that show users activities /contents throughout the site i.e ... videos block... submitted articles... etc etc

the dashboard is like a quick information and access area for example the quick links block allows users to quickly reach pages/features located throughout your site

just to add...

the dashboard is also handy to add blocks that contain things thats local to the user's for example classified listings that are within the user's city etc...

Thanks. The problem it seems are that new members who register are taken to Avatar then Profile, instead of adding biz in the biz section they start putting it in the description of Profile. Then they just leave thinking they have added their biz

I mean crap, they have sites, they tweet and yet .......wow.

So perhaps directing them to the Home page is more ideal, where they will feel like they are on a normal webs page.

Any thoughts?

If you have a biz listing module you need to make it very obvious. There should be a BIG link on the front page and a link on the dashboard that can take them to the listings module. I would use a graphic link with the message "promote your business"

WE made a "Finder" which was on the home page. It had Find an event / promote an event; find a class / promote a class: Find a band / promote a band; find a job / post a job.... and many others, most of which linked to our business listing or jobs modules.

It works very well.

There is so much on the profile page, wow so confusing. Too much. How many times do they go on their profile page?

Dashboard is where they always log into. So it should have all the info right there. i think????
