Profile comments not working

Hello, I have a new install.  I noticed that in a members profiles I can't post anything to the Profile Comments box at all.  When I post a typed comment I get an error saying "Please enter 3-2048 characters" and trying the record a video comment every thing seems to be working (recording) till you hit post then it gets stuck on "processing" for a long time till it will finally come back with and error stating "error processing file"

Anyone have any ideas?

There is a problem if you have both Profile Comments and the Timeline on the Profile page.  NOTE: Not the post to timeline box, that can be there.  I am talking about the block that lists things that have been added to the timeline.  So if you have both the Timeline Block that shows what has been added to the timeline and profile comments, profile comments will throw that error.

On my site, I have the Profile Comments block and the Post to Timeline block and they both work fine.

Hello, I have a new install.

Is that new install done via an "Auto Installer?"

Thanks all...  RMS is setup and works fine in chat and you tube vids work well.  And yes, it is a server autoinstall, C-Panel.

Thanks for the reply...

So your saying to move the Timeline "message received box" to a different page all together?  Like to the members account page.

 Thanks for your help,

I can see your right about a conflict.   I moved the Timeline "posted" message box out of profiles and now I can post typed messages in Profile Comments. I still can't record a video message but that doesn't work anywhere so that's some other problem.  BUT... After I moved Timeline posted messages out... Now... I can only post on my Timeline but not others. I put the Timeline posted box back in profiles and then I can post again on all timelines but not profile comments.  It seems that I have to pick one.

OK, you have the post to timeline and the profile comments.  If you visit someone's page, their profile, you can post to their timeline.  If you put the timeline block in the account page, that is a friend's timeline; meaning the person that owns the account and see what their friends are doing.  If anyone posts to a friend's timeline they will see it.  Since it is a friend's timeline, the owner won't see anything posted to their timeline on the account page.  To see their timeline, they have to go their profile page and click on their timeline link in the sub menu and they can see everything that was posted to their timeline.

Now, my members use the profile comments more than the post to timeline.  If you have members, ask them what they would rather have.  Now, you can expand the toolbars for the profile comments so that your members can embed videos, images, change the font colour etc so that the profile comment box has more options.

So yes, in this case you are going to have to decide which is better suited, or what you like better, or what you think your members will like better.

Personally, I think this is a bug that just has not been addressed by Boonex.

And yes, it is a server autoinstall, C-Panel.

This has been proven to not be the best method for installing Dolphin, you get errors that will make you chase your tail forever.

I suggest you manually install your site.

I left out the Timeline posted message box then cleared the cache and now anyone can post in profile comments "and" timeline. They can see there friends posted messages in there account page so that's going to have to work.

As far as expanding the toolbars for the profile comments so that your members can embed videos, images, change the font color etc so that the profile comment box has more options. This sounds great and I would love to do this but it's beyond me so unless your up to a side job I won't be doing what your suggesting anytime soon. :(  Lol...  But thank you very much. Your suggestions helped allot.

BTW can you post video comments in your profile, groups ect comment boxes? That doesn't work at all in my site.

I had no idea that I was paying $300 for a beta ver.

Thank You, Thank You...

I'll guess what your saying is with an auto install I might or might not know if any errors accrue during the install?  Sounds great but by doing a manual install at this point I will lose all the work I've already done.

Do you have the RMS media server (yes, I am repeating myself lol) installed or have access to one?

No, Dolphin is not in BETA; it is a constantly evolving platform just like ELGG or Oxwall or phpFox or JoomSocial, or Drupal, etc.  Improvements to be added and bugs to be worked out.

If you can edit php scripts, then expanding the profile comment toolbar is very easy.  Look in /templates/base/scripts for BxBaseEditorTinyMCE.php; you will find several toolbar sets for the different areas.  If you want to add the embed plugin for TinyMCE, you will need to add it to the /plugins/tiny_mce  That would be where you would change the emotions as well as I outlined here: http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Different-set-of-emotions-for-TinyMCE.htm

Error with Video comments most likely RMS connection issue. Processing video for a very long time....  Suggest reducing quality in video comments module to 95 or less so it will process faster than a 100 would.

I am with Newton on this one.  That cPanel install is just going to be too iffy.  You will never know if an issue is due to the cPanel install or something else and it is going to make it harder to troubleshoot issues.

As Newton said, we can help.

Sure wish I would have known not to use the auto install before I went with it.  I did have a lot of problems which might or might not have been at fault. I believe we have a handle on them now thanks to all the help from you guys...

Thank you...

Are your files permissions set correctly ?

Is RMS connected ?

Do you have cron set correctly ?

BTW,  I did find that permissions were not set correctly.  Permissions for ffmeg.exe was not set correctly and of coarse resetting that did fix a couple problems.

Please read here: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DetailedInstall

It will list permissions for files and settings for php and mySql.

If you don't have access to a command shell/line, then use your file manager.
