Profile types?

Does anyone know how I would setup profile types and setup certain permissions for each of them. Would I have to set that up under memberships? I hope this isn't the only way because I don't want to have to set up pricing. All profile types are going to be free.

Do you want profile types or membership types?  You can do this by purchasing a Profile Splitter which will give you different profile types, but you sound like you want membership types.  If that is the case then you do it under different memberships and just set the price to $0.00.  You

I was noticing the membership area that I could do that but if I go with membership types then how would I give my member the option to choose what membership they want during registration. And another thing I want to know is, is there anyway I can get rid of the standard and promotion membership types? It seems as if I can't delete them? Would I have to do something in my files?

Just turn off the Promotional Memberships, it's as easy as a click box.

To give a choice, just drop the box into the join page for the membership types. 

I turned off the promotional type but I'm not understaning what you mean by drop the box into the join page. I was on the join form and I didn't see an option for that. MustI create a new item? Now under the membership area, I created a new membership type but I'm not understanding how I can make it part of my registration page.
