Promotional vs Standard membership?

I don't understand how a member is supposed to know when they sign up that they'll be on a "promotional" membership and will be upgraded after so many days to "standard".  If I turn off "Enable promotional membership", does that affect anything?  I don't care about promotional memberships at all, just 1 level of membership, at least for now.

If you want only one type of membership, just turn off the promotional. Nothing will happen. Whoever join the site will become a standard member.

But what happens when there are already promotional members BEFORE that option is removed or disabled? Are those promotional members then automatically updated to standard, or do they have to recreate their accounts from scratch?

After the promotional period has ended, they will be reverted to the standard membership level. You can also manually change their membership level by navigating to administration, members, which will allow you to click on an account to modify.

I am trying to change promotional membership to Standard membership... BUT Standard is greyed out and will not let me change it.

I get this error:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/admin/domains/asia-connect-th.com/public_html/administration/memb_levels.php on line 56

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/admin/domains/asia-connect-th.com/public_html/administration/memb_levels.php:56) in/home/admin/domains/asia-connect-th.com/public_html/inc/admin_design.inc.php on line 56

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, I'm not receiving your error message but the symptoms are the same.
I can access a member from the admin panel in order to update their membership type by clicking on the update button, but when the membership type is selected as STANDARD followed by clicking the SAVE button further down nothing changes ... even though the default message states that changed have been saved. Even weirder is the fact that I created another membership level and that one can indeed be selected, changed, and saved. Like I said, weird ...
