Question on the Boonex Forum module

Hi all,

I'm configuring a newly installed site and am having a great deal of difficulty configuring this module.

I can't find any documentation on how to configure user levels and forum visibility to which user levels.

I checked with my host and they don't have any support documentation for this module either.

I've checked the support docs, how tos, knowledgebases and this forum in search of any information on how to do this. Finally I decided to join up and ask the question to the user community.

Does this module support displaying or concealing a forum from a user based on the user level they belong to?

I look forward to seeing the response,

Michelle

In the Admin section of your site - Settings - Membership Levels. Click action next to desired user level - this will open a long list of actions and you check to allow and uncheck to disallow for a specific membership level. This will handle the forums and all other modules.

The forum module is a little different than the others in that the set-up procedures are actually within the module itself.

If you go to admin/modules/forum and click Setup, you should be taken directly to the module. That's mostly for setting up the categories.

You can control various aspects of who see's what via admin/settings/membership levels.

You may need to create new levels so that certain people can see different things. Click on the Standard/ Actions and you will see what the standard user can see. A few items are blanked out however they can be enabled, If you create a new level, all options can be enabled or disabled.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, the Professor answered while I was typing this.

Wow I wasn't expecting such fast responses and with so much detail.

Thank you both for that.

From tinkering as listed above I can allow a user level to see forums but not sure how I can show one and hide another, will do a little more tweaking.

Thanks again.

what i posted is a general permission setting - not per forum topic or thread or post. Never had to hide some and display others as that would defeat the purpose of the forums in general - but, there is some way to make a post Private - I just have never done it so do not know how.

Thanks ProfessorSr,

That was exactly what I needed to know.

You create a certain membership group and allow that only group to see a certain forum/subforum.

What I have done is to have only people who I approved to access some kind of secret forum where we share skills to beat the casinos. Other standard membership levels could see that forum as well but when they click on it they will get an Access Denied error. cool huh?

Is that the same as creating a group and using that to interact?

I'm finding it a little difficult to get my head around some of the features, maybe I need to track down some detailed support docs to understand the underlying structure.

At the moment I'm removing any module that doesn't work out of the box so I can see how much development work I'm going to have to put in to getting this little project working.

Thanks for the help I've got from everyone.

I believe you can also change them specifically for each level in Page Builder or Menu Settings or Page Access (maybe somewhere else), by clicking on the title of each forum section and choosing who can see what.
