RMS, Chat and Whiteboard

I seem to be having a problem with both chat and IM messages, plus the white board.

I read earlier about the problem that may reside on RMS that we use with the free dolphin, ray orca etc.

I have rms checked, and all the widgets seem to run except the forementioned ones.

Now, if there is a problem with rms, is it possible, to connect to another rms, using the ip address or domain name, like how it is setup now for boonex.com?

If this was possible, could not someone with rms, connect you to this, or find a host who will, for a fee, allow you to connect to their rms?

My current hosts, I have two, won't allow rms to run on their servers.

The rest of dolphin runs and looks good, especially when I get around to changing the template or design it.

Thanks....

BTW, The Game widget runs great.... Nice communtiy addon.

the RMS server other then boonex require your domain to be added to the configuration access list.

So regardless if you have the server and port numbers it will not work unless they have given your domain access.

Things you need to check,

1) make sure the correct ports are open on your server and your host is allowing that traffic to pass

2) make sure that if you are using a RMS service other then boonex that they have your correct domain url.

Thanks for the info. What ports are we talking about? What ports need to be open on the host server?

Maybe I'm coming off in the wrong way. I was informed that maybe my hosting company had not opened the port necessary for me to be able to use RMS. I asked, then what port would they need opened.

There are quite a few ports .....

Now, I'm showing my ignorance to RMS and how it works.

What I need to know, I believe, is what port is needed for this to correctly work?

Plus, if all you need is to have your domain listed on a RMS host list, for you to work with that host. Why not charge users a nominal fee. Less then hosting, on account your using less resources, and create a shared RMS fee for around a buck $1.00 (USD) a month. This would be fair, and would be a win win situation for all concerned.

This way, there won't be as much traffic hitting one server.

Just a idea.

There are several companies that will host just your RMS.   My domain is also at a host that wont support ray.  Most of the RMS-only servers charge about 4.95 a mont, some lower than that.

All it involves is signing up for an account,  and giving them the address of your install or path to Ray folder on it's existing server.  Then they give you the numbers to put into your Ray Widgets configuration boxes, port and so on.  Check the multitude of ads around here, and also hit google for "stand alone RMS hosting".

Good luck with the rest of the question, wish I had more help to give.
