RMS Issues

Hi, we are a web development company currently building a Dolphin site for a client whom is experiencing issues with uploading videos/music etc.

Originally, we were using the free RMS which worked fine for us but my client reported it didn't work for himself. We then went through the steps of installing the RMS on our own server. It again works for us but not our client.

We've suggested to him many different ways to test the RMS (file types/sizes, testing on various PCs, testing in various browsers) and the only success he has had is on a Vista PC - it never works for XP and he also reports that some of his members have said the same.

I've spent a lot of time on the forum and have read many times that the RMS does not work on shared hosting but the only reason I've read for this is because on shared hosting you don't have shell access - being the developer's though, we do.

Can anybody shed light on the exact technical specifications needed for the RMS and any further reasons why it may not work on shared hosting? Also, if anyone knows of an issue that would cause my client not to be able to upload when we can?

Thank

What version of flash is your client using? I found the following:

" As soon as Adobe has made some changes in the base XML class of their latest Flash Player, it has become incompatible with Ray. So, you need to make sure that your Flash Player version is 8 or 9. If you have upgraded Flash Player to the 10th version, you should downgrade it to 8 or 9 version."

He is using 10 but then so are we so I didn't think that was an issue. I'll advise him to try that though.

Thanks.

Anyone else have reasons for why we shouldn't run RMS on a shared host?

I am aware speed is an issue but right now the RMS simply doesn't work for some users even when usage is low.

Find out if indeed your client is using Dolphin 6. If the client is using Dolphin 7, there is a known issue about videos and music not uploading properly. It's a bug in D7, but also note that D7 is a beta version and there is no final release yet. So supporting it as a host would be useless at this point until all major bugs are fixed and final version is released.

RMS does not control standard video and music uploads in D7. Instead, it controls things like video chat and video comments that require JRE through tomcat. Not sure about D6 though.

Also, I recently read that you have to have Tomcat Version 6 or higher for RMS to work as well.

Hi Lavinco,

It's Dolphin 6. We have installed the latest version of Tomcat on the server.

The thing is it works on some machines but not others and the RMS does not work on those machines using the Boonex public RMS either.

It's unlikely it's a RMS server issue. Works for some and not others suggests a client side issue.

More specific data on the client side would be helpful.

I also run Flash 10 and have no problems, so i do not consider flash 10 a problem. But i am aware of another issue.

1) So, what web browser is the client using?

2) What is installed for browser tool bars?

The issue I am aware of is some of the ray flash modules do not work properly under Firefox when the Google toolbar is installed. But works fine with IE and the Google toolbar. When the Google toolbar is removed from Firefox the problem goes away. So it may be simply an issue with certain browser and toolbar combinations.

Of course i have not been able to convince Boonex that there is a problem with firefox/google toolbar combo as they have not been able to reproduce the problem with the exception of the IM which i do not know if they fixed that yet or not.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
