RMS help for newbie

I'm confused.  I have a clean install of Dolphin 7.0.1.  I have no content whatsoever...just the admin as the one and only member.

1. What feature (A/V chat, Whiteboard, etc.) will definitely indicate whether I have RMS installed and working on my site?  I ask because I have Chat working (I get the flash chat window), but not sure if that means RMS is installed/working.

2.  Where are the menu buttons/links to all of the Flash Apps:

- AV Chat

- Video Comment

- Desktop...what's that?

- Messenger...what's its difference with Simple Messenger?

- Music and Video Player

- Photo Shooter

- Whiteboard

The only button/link I see is "Chat."

3.  Three of the flash apps require registration...where do I get the license key?

4. If I do not have RMS installed/working (per question #1), assuming my server provider doesn't already have it installed/working...do I have to tell them to follow the instructions here: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/RayMediaServerInstallation?

5. If my server provider does not support RMS...got recommendation for a good provider?

Thanks

Wow! you opened a whole lot of questions at once didn't you?!

I'm still on 7.0.0. so i'm not sure if the desk top got fixed, but I think there was issues  with that. its just a link i think that goes on your desk top on your computer. If you dont know how to run a cron job, ask your host to do it and it will help!

The white board (which I dont get, but thats just me) relies on the RMS and the video chat also, but the video chat(which I thought was a cool feature at first) also needs it, but I recomment taking that part out because it uses power and it takes up the whole damn page when you get a few members recording the message, the music is a cool feature if you get it to work right ( I failed to get it to work right) but I dont think it needs Rms for that.

You need the RMS for video chat, but not standard chat. And Photo shooter is something I dont have, must be something new (do I want this Boonex?)

And I think the video doesnt need RMS either!

Ok, Thats about as far as my knowledge can go! best thng to do is start searching all the forums, because I can bet that it has already been talked about! Hell I'm sure I even asked something about the pesky RMS!

Good luck

Derrick

1. check in the admin panel  modules  flash apps   settings in the top right.   is use rms checked ?

2. not sure what you mean.

3. this is a boonex problem.  there call back server is not working correct right now.  nothing you can do about it at the moment.

4. depends on who you host with.  what kind of hosting do you have. shared or dedicated.

5. terabyte-hosting.com for sure.  shared, vps, dedicated, rms included with hosting or they offere stand alond rms hosting as well.

1. It is not...so Im not using RMS.  However, why does the chat window still show up and works properly? Is is not an RMS feature?

2.  What I meant is where does one find the menu option/button/link that takes one to some of these flash apps?  For example, where is the option/link/button on the site to use the Desktop flash app?

3. Since I never had nor currently have a license key on these 3 apps...I assume I would not be affected by the problems Boonex has had recently.  Basically, with or without Boonex attack problems...where does one get the license keys?  Is it the same key as I have for Dolphin itself?

4.  I have better than shared, but not dedicated...VPS.

5.  Thanks for info.

chat works without rms        if you're planing on using video chat then yes you need rms
3.  Three of the flash apps require registration...where do I get the license key?
use your dolphin license if you don't have one you can get a free one
http://www.boonex.com/unity/community/licenses         "Get Free Licenses"

question 4-5 there are many host out there providing stand alone rms hosting so it's not a big deal if your current host doesn't provide it
